About Stuart Haire
Stuart is a seasoned executive in Financial Services having held Senior Leadership (SMF) positions in two of the UK’s leading financial institutions. Stuart has held Board Member roles in FS subsidiaries, with exposure to asset management, insurance, advisory, retail and commercial banking. Stuart also chairs the cross-Industry UK Finance Personal Banking Product and Services Board and regularly attends full UK Finance Board meetings.
Currently, Stuart is Group General Manager and CEO for HSBC’s Personal and Private Banking businesses in the UK. This includes SMR responsibility for HSBC UK, UK Private Bank, First Direct, M&S Bank and John Lewis Financial Services. Stuart sits on the M&S Bank Board.
Previously, Stuart was leader of the Direct Bank for personal and SME customers of NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank. The Direct Bank was made up of Digital (proposition development, online & mobile banking), Digital Support (social media, webchat, communities and support centre) and Service Centres (telephony sales and service centres). Additionally, Stuart had responsibility for designing the future of the Retail Bank franchise and sponsoring customer-led innovation.
Previous roles in FS included executive responsibility for Credit & Operational Risk (as CRO), Compliance, Product & Commercial Performance, Strategy, Capital Management and Treasury.
As a consultant, Stuart led projects delivering an enterprise scale data warehouse, data mining, CRM and sales/marketing systems. He also helped a utility enter an adjacent market.
Stuart has a strong academic background culminating in a First Class Degree from The University of Glasgow in Physics and Electronic Engineering followed by a short time at the European Space Agency. While at University he held the role of Student President.
From a personal perspective Stuart is married and living in Edinburgh with his wife Fiona and their sons Ethan and Gregor. Stuart enjoys playing sports and spending time with family and friends. He has a passion for financial inclusion and financial education and has used roles within FS to further these causes.
