About John O Neill

John O Neill is Managing Director, Global Head of Digital Assets Strategy at HSBC, responsible for the approach to CBDCs, stablecoins, cryptocurrencies and asset tokenisation. In this role, John is responsible for HSBC Orion, the propriety digital assets platform that financial institutions and corporations are able to use to issue digital bonds on blockchain. Prior to joining HBSC, John held various roles at ICE Futures Europe (previously the London International Financial Futures Exchange – LIFFE), finally becoming head of the FICC business. He has more than twenty years of industry experience and leadership, and a track record of delivery across strategy, product and business development roles in both investment banks and market infrastructure. Key strengths and achievements: extensive experience of working within executive teams; strong focus on revenue generation and commercial opportunities; deep knowledge of derivative and cash markets in multiple asset classes; expert on digital assets, cryptocurrencies and stablecoins; leadership of market structure and regulatory change; Fintech development; industry evolution and reform; media spokesperson and conference speaker.
