Ask Three Colleagues for the Same Number and Get Five Answers

Spotlight on SAP Fioneer: Ask Three Colleagues for the Same Number and Get Five Answers | Video still | FF News

Ask three people from three different teams for the book value of the same financial instrument and you may well get five different answers. Not because anyone is doing a bad job — because the definitions, calculations and processes live in different systems, owned by different teams, written in different languages. It's a joke Adrian Mustafa uses often, for the reason most good jokes land.

In this segment, host Mark Aubin turns to Mustafa, Product Director at SAP Fioneer, for the product-builder's answer to a question the series has been circling: concretely, what must a subledger contain? He sets out the structured finance layer between source systems and the GL, the three things it has to do to every business event that reaches it, and why serving controlling, risk and external audit in a standardised way matters as much as serving the ledger. Then he gets specific about month-end — and about the one capability he insists on, for anyone currently managing reconciliation breaks across five separate spreadsheets.

Mike Dolan, Partner at Ernst & Young, picks up the thread on what event-driven, rules-based processing changes about the close. See the rest of the series on the Cloud Accounting Subledger from SAP Fioneer.
