Press Release: Unit21 and Corelation Partner to Deliver Real-Time Fraud Prevention for 300+ Credit Unions | Featured Image by FF News

Unit21 and Corelation have established a strategic partnership to provide credit unions with a unified fraud detection and core banking response system. By bridging the gap between risk monitoring and account control, the integration allows financial institutions to automate the transition from identifying suspicious activity to executing preventative actions like card blocks and payment holds.

What was announced

The partnership centers on a bidirectional integration between Corelation’s KeyStone core processing system and Unit21’s AI Risk Infrastructure. Currently serving more than 300 credit union clients, Corelation’s KeyStone platform will now feed member, account, card, and transaction data directly into Unit21 for real-time detection and investigation. Crucially, the integration utilizes Corelation’s KeyBridge API to allow analysts to take immediate action within the Unit21 interface. This enables fraud teams to block cards, stop payments, and place holds on accounts without the need to log into a separate core system or re-key member data.

The technical implementation involves a dedicated Unit21 AML Extract, which is configured within the KeyStone environment by an administrator or data team. This extract performs an initial historical data load followed by incremental updates approximately every five minutes, covering changes to entities, joint account holders, accounts, and cards. Unit21 then applies its self-service rules and AI Agents to this data. Beyond core transaction monitoring, credit unions can also link their digital banking platforms to Unit21 to facilitate real-time decisioning on logins and profile changes, creating a comprehensive audit trail where evidence and decisions are logged on a single record. The result is a streamlined workflow that covers the entire lifecycle of a case, from the initial suspicious transaction to the filing of a SAR or CTR.

"Fraud moves at the speed of real-time payments, and credit unions can't fight it with next-day files and a second login. Together with Corelation, we're giving credit unions a way to catch fraud, stop it in the core, and file on it, all from a single case. That means fewer dollars lost, fewer members harmed, and fraud teams that finally get ahead instead of cleaning up."

The companies involved

Corelation, Inc. is a major player in the credit union core processing market, known primarily for its KeyStone platform. The company focuses on a person-centric approach to banking technology, aiming to place the individual member at the center of the credit union’s operational workflow. With over 300 credit union clients, Corelation has established itself as a significant alternative to legacy core providers by offering more open API access through tools like KeyBridge. The company maintains a strong presence in the North American financial technology sector, providing the underlying infrastructure for hundreds of institutions to manage their daily operations.

Unit21 operates as an AI-native risk infrastructure platform, specializing in fraud prevention and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) monitoring. The company provides tools for transaction monitoring, case management, and the filing of regulatory reports. Unit21’s platform is designed to be flexible, allowing financial institutions to deploy custom rules and AI-driven agents to identify complex risk patterns. By providing a modern data infrastructure for risk, Unit21 aims to replace fragmented legacy systems with a single, defensible workflow for compliance and fraud teams.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has extensively tracked the modernization of the credit union sector, particularly regarding the adoption of AI and integrated digital banking solutions. Recent reports include MessagePay Launches AI Pay+ to Predict Borrower Payments and Reaches 400th Customer, which highlighted the growing use of predictive analytics in member services. The drive toward updated digital infrastructure was also seen when Police Federal Credit Union Modernizes Digital Banking with Mahalo’s Thoughtful Banking Platform and IAA Credit Union Partners with Mahalo Banking to Modernize Digital Services for Nationwide Members. What this means

This announcement signals a critical shift in how credit unions manage the "last mile" of fraud prevention. Historically, the lag between detecting a suspicious transaction and manually blocking an account in the core system has been a primary source of loss. By moving toward a five-minute data refresh cycle and API-driven account control, the industry is moving closer to the real-time capabilities of larger tier-one banks and neo-banks. This puts significant pressure on legacy core processors that lack open API structures. The integration suggests that the market is no longer satisfied with passive monitoring; the demand is now for unified environments where detection and remediation are inseparable.
