MortgageLab.ai Launches to Bridge the AI Confidence Gap for UK Mortgage Advisers
By Lauren Towner · 13 October 2026

Mortgage Lab has launched as a dedicated education and implementation platform for UK mortgage professionals navigating the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence. With three-quarters of advice professionals now using AI tools, the community aims to bridge the gap between generic software use and the specific compliance requirements of a regulated advice process.
What was announced
The launch of Mortgage Lab introduces a free community platform designed to help mortgage advisers implement AI with confidence and regulatory oversight. The initiative is backed by five founding partners, including headline partners Curvestone AI and JammJar, alongside Keychain, Roma Finance, and Instamo. The platform, accessible at mortgagelab.ai, provides a suite of resources including a "Friday Briefing," a daily AI news feed, a podcast, and a library of practical guides and videos tailored specifically for the mortgage advice process.
The necessity for such a platform is highlighted by data from Intelliflo’s 2026 UK Advice Efficiency Survey, which found that AI adoption among advice professionals jumped from 43% to 74% in just one year. Most of this adoption is currently focused on administrative tasks such as note-taking, transcription, and report writing. Mortgage Lab aims to move beyond these general applications by providing guidance built for the regulated mortgage sector rather than borrowed from general AI content.
In addition to its digital resources, Mortgage Lab has been named the Official AI Knowledge Partner for Mortgage Innovation & Technology Live. At this event, the organization will host a hands-on roundtable titled "AI in practice: real mortgage tasks, real guardrails." The founding partners will contribute to the community through various media, including blogs, webinars, and training sessions, sharing direct insights from their own implementations of the technology.
"Advisers aren't asking whether to use AI anymore. They're asking how to use it without putting a client file or a Consumer Duty outcome at risk, and without losing time they don't have. That's the question Mortgage Lab exists to answer, with straight, practical guidance from people who work in this industry every day. Having two headline partners and three more sponsors on board from day one tells us the industry wants this too."

The companies involved
Mortgage Lab was founded in 2026 by a team of industry veterans and technical specialists. The leadership includes Liz Syms, who also serves as CEO of Connect for Intermediaries, and Paul Brett, a Director at BTS Consult & Coach with nearly forty years of experience in the mortgage market. They are joined by Rebecca Whitney, founder of Advisory 9, and CTO Mike Potts.
Headline partner Curvestone AI is a specialist in AI compliance and automation. The firm has established a significant presence in the fintech sector through its work in automating complex regulatory tasks for mortgage networks. JammJar, the other headline partner, focuses on operational efficiency, helping firms reduce administrative burdens to facilitate growth without a linear increase in headcount costs. The supporting partners—Keychain, Roma Finance, and Instamo—represent a cross-section of the mortgage and lending ecosystem, from technology providers to specialist lenders. Together, these organizations provide the technical and market expertise required to ground AI education in the realities of the UK's regulatory framework.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has tracked the increasing intersection of AI and mortgage compliance, particularly through the activities of Curvestone AI. In October 2026, the firm reached a major milestone when Curvestone AI Partners with Connect to Automate Compliance for 350+ Mortgage Firms, a move that directly involved Mortgage Lab co-founder Liz Syms. Earlier that month, the company's growth was further validated when Curvestone AI Selected for Barclays Eagle Labs Scaleup Programme to Drive AI Compliance Innovation. This followed their entry into the OpenAI Partner Network to Scale AI Compliance Automation in September. The broader market for AI-native mortgage solutions is also heating up, as seen when Elio Mortgage Emerges from Stealth with $5.1M to Launch AI-Native Origination Platform.
What this means
The mortgage industry is hitting a critical inflection point where "shadow AI"—the use of unvetted, generic tools—poses a genuine regulatory risk. As Consumer Duty requirements place greater emphasis on client outcomes and data protection, the jump to 74% adoption suggests that advisers are prioritizing efficiency, yet often without a sector-specific safety net. The launch of Mortgage Lab highlights a market-wide tension: the urgent need for productivity gains versus the necessity of a regulated audit trail. This move puts pressure on traditional software providers to integrate more robust, compliant AI features or risk losing ground to specialized platforms that bridge the gap between general LLMs and mortgage-specific compliance.
