Sumsub has launched its Reusable KYC Gateway at Token2049 Singapore, with stablecoin wallet MiniPay as the inaugural partner. This development addresses a critical friction point in decentralized finance by allowing users to verify their identity once and share it across a network of regulated partners, significantly reducing onboarding drop-off rates for fintech ecosystems.

What was announced

Sumsub’s Reusable KYC Gateway is a new addition to its existing reusable identity product line, which also includes Reusable KYC Share. The solution is designed for non-regulated businesses, such as non-custodial wallets and decentralized trading platforms, that connect users to a network of regulated partners like on-ramps, off-ramps, and payment providers. MiniPay, a self-custodial stablecoin wallet with over 20 million wallets opened across more than 70 countries, is the first to integrate the technology.

The gateway solves a persistent issue in the crypto and fintech space: the "KYC fatigue" experienced by users who must re-upload documents and submit new selfies every time they interact with a different regulated service within the same wallet ecosystem. Under the new system, users verify their identity once with Sumsub and can then unlock services across MiniPay’s partner network with a single tap. The system leverages Sumsub’s existing database of 15 million pre-verified IDs. When a user is prompted for verification, they can either use an existing Sumsub ID or complete a new check with an ID document and a selfie.

Crucially, the process is built on explicit user consent. Users maintain control over what data is shared and with which partner. Because the verified identity is passed directly from Sumsub to the regulated partner, MiniPay avoids the liability of collecting or storing sensitive biometric data or identity documents. Early results from MiniPay’s partners show that verification conversion rates have jumped from approximately 70% to 95%, while the time taken to complete KYC has been slashed by up to 50%. Currently, eight of MiniPay's partners already use Sumsub for verification services.

"Repeated KYC checks across the same ecosystem are inconvenient for everyone, and one in three applicants we see have already verified with us before,"

Andrew Novoselsky, Chief Product Officer at Sumsub.

The companies involved

Sumsub is an AI-powered trust infrastructure provider that focuses on compliance operations at scale. The company has established a significant presence in the fintech sector, providing tools for identity verification, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance. With a deep history of reporting at FF News, Sumsub has positioned itself as a central node in the global compliance landscape, particularly for firms navigating the complexities of cross-border digital finance and the rise of AI-driven fraud.

MiniPay is a fast-growing stablecoin wallet that emphasizes self-custody, allowing users to maintain full control over their funds. The wallet is closely associated with Opera, where Murray Spark serves as Senior Director of Business Development. MiniPay’s growth to 20 million users highlights the increasing demand for accessible stablecoin solutions in emerging markets. By integrating Sumsub’s gateway, MiniPay is extending its philosophy of user control from financial assets to personal identity data. This move places both companies at the intersection of decentralized finance and traditional regulatory requirements, bridging the gap between user privacy and institutional compliance needs.

What FF News has reported before

Sumsub has been a frequent subject of coverage, with 94 previous stories detailing its expansion and technological shifts. Recently, the company has focused on the intersection of AI and security, as seen when Sumsub Launches Agentic AI Council to Drive Responsible AI Adoption in APAC. The firm has also been active in securing internal corporate environments, recently reporting that Sumsub Debuts Workforce Verification to Combat AI Fraud and Secure Enterprise Systems.

Beyond product launches, Sumsub’s research has highlighted systemic risks in the banking sector, such as when a Sumsub Report Finds that European banks are failing to stop fraud at the speed of instant payments. The company has also pursued strategic integrations to embed compliance into the broader fintech stack, notably when DashDevs and Sumsub Partner to Embed Automated Compliance into Fintech Core Platform.

What this means

The launch of the Reusable KYC Gateway signals a necessary pivot in the identity verification market toward portability. As the fintech landscape becomes more fragmented with various niche service providers, the "verify once, use everywhere" model is no longer a luxury but a requirement for maintaining user conversion. This puts significant pressure on traditional KYC providers who operate in silos and cannot offer a pre-verified user base. The industry is moving toward a model where the value lies not just in the verification technology itself, but in the size and liquidity of the verified identity network. However, this shift raises critical questions about the concentration of identity data and whether the industry can maintain true decentralization while relying on centralized compliance hubs.
