PlannerPal has secured $6 million (£4.3m) in funding to scale its AI-driven client intelligence platform for the UK wealth management and mortgage sectors. For fintech professionals, this represents a shift from standalone AI tools toward deep integration with legacy core systems, aiming to solve the fragmentation of client data in highly regulated advice environments.

What was announced

PlannerPal’s $6 million funding round was led by Mercia Ventures, with participation from existing investor Ada Ventures and a group of strategic fintech angels. The capital is earmarked for the expansion of engineering and product teams to support customer rollouts and advance the platform's client intelligence capabilities. Currently, the AI platform is utilized by more than 250 UK financial advice and wealth management firms, representing approximately £150 billion in client assets. Notable clients include Canaccord Wealth, ValidPath, and Amber River, with the firm recently reporting that it serves 20% of the UK’s top 20 wealth managers.

Beyond wealth management, the company has expanded into the UK mortgage sector, onboarding Charles Cameron, one of the country's largest independent mortgage brokers. The technology functions by capturing client meetings, generating documentation, and updating core systems to eliminate administrative burdens. A key differentiator is its deep integration strategy; PlannerPal is the sole AI partner for the ‘Iress Partnership’ and is embedded directly into the Xplan workflow via single sign-on. It also maintains integrations with industry-standard tools such as Intelliflo, Curo, Plannr, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and SharePoint. This approach focuses on connecting fragmented data held across various conversations and documents to improve data quality and consistency at scale.

"Financial advice firms are sitting on an extraordinary amount of valuable client information, but much of it is fragmented across conversations, documents and different systems. The first opportunity for AI was obvious: remove the manual work of capturing it. The bigger opportunity is making the client data firms already hold work better. We don't believe the answer is another disconnected AI tool sitting outside the core systems of the business. A firm’s AI and client data strategy need to work together. We've been deliberately focused on the UK market and this funding lets us accelerate the pace of growth and deliver the same opportunity to the mortgage market."

The companies involved

PlannerPal is a UK-based AI platform specifically designed for the financial advice and wealth management sectors. It positions itself as a "client intelligence layer" that bridges the gap between unstructured client interactions and structured core systems. The company works closely with Iress, a major global provider of software for the financial services industry. Iress, which operates the widely used Xplan platform, has a significant footprint in the UK and Australian markets and has been a frequent subject of industry reporting regarding its integration ecosystem.

Mercia Ventures, the lead investor in this round, is part of Mercia Asset Management PLC, a proactive specialist venture capital firm focused on UK regional businesses. Ada Ventures, which led PlannerPal’s pre-seed round in early 2024, is a venture firm known for its focus on overlooked founders and impactful technology. The involvement of these institutional backers, alongside the strategic partnership with Iress, places PlannerPal at the center of the UK’s advice-tech infrastructure, moving it beyond the status of a niche startup into a core utility for large-scale wealth managers and mortgage brokers.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has extensively tracked the evolution of the UK’s financial advice and mortgage technology landscape. This includes reporting on how major infrastructure players are evolving their offerings, such as when Iress Integrates Mortgage Sourcing Data into Access FS Elev8 Platform. This prior coverage highlights a broader industry trend toward data interoperability, where sourcing data and client information are increasingly being pulled into unified workflows. The integration of AI tools like PlannerPal into these established ecosystems reflects the ongoing digital transformation within the mortgage and wealth sectors that FF News has documented across the UK fintech market.

What this means

This funding signals a maturation in how the wealth management sector views artificial intelligence. The "standalone" AI era is ending; firms are no longer satisfied with isolated chatbots or transcription tools that create new data silos. Instead, the pressure is now on legacy software providers to open their APIs to specialist "intelligence layers" that can actually write back to the core record. For the mortgage market, this announcement raises questions about whether traditional CRM providers can keep pace with AI-native entrants. The success of this model will depend on whether these integrations can truly solve the "suitability at scale" challenge that continues to haunt UK compliance departments.
