Sumsub has launched a Non-Doc Nordic eID Bundle, consolidating Swedish BankID, Danish MitID, Norwegian BankID, and Finnish FTN into a single integration. For fintech professionals, this removes the historical friction of managing four separate regional contracts and technical setups, allowing for seamless identity verification across the digitally mature Nordic markets through one shared monthly commitment.

What was announced

The launch of the Non-Doc Nordic eID Bundle marks a significant expansion of Sumsub’s "non-documentary" verification suite, which allows businesses to verify users via direct bank, government, or telecom record checks rather than physical document scans. A key highlight of the announcement is the inclusion of Swedish BankID into the Non-Doc suite for the first time, completing the company's coverage of the four primary Nordic electronic identity schemes.

The bundle is designed to facilitate regional scaling by allowing usage to move freely between markets based on actual verification volumes. This eliminates the need for businesses to renegotiate contracts when expanding from one Nordic country to another. The technical integration covers four distinct national systems:

  • Sweden: Swedish BankID, which covers over 98% of the adult population and completes verifications in two to three seconds via mobile or desktop applications.
  • Denmark: MitID, overseen by the Agency for Digital Government, serving approximately 5.5 million registered users and meeting national NSIS assurance standards.
  • Norway: Norwegian BankID, covering 97% of the adult population and ensuring compliance with the national Anti-Money Laundering Act.
  • Finland: The Finnish Trust Network (FTN), which aggregates ten banks and eID providers under the supervision of Traficom and the Financial Supervisory Authority.

By providing a single point of entry for these eIDAS-recognized schemes, the bundle is positioned as a foundational element for firms preparing for the upcoming European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet framework.

"Businesses expanding across the Nordics have had to treat four countries with near-universal eID adoption as four separate integration projects. That doesn’t match how these markets actually work for a client operating regionally. A business expanding across the Nordics doesn't get one type of user — this month it's a batch of signups from Stockholm, next month a batch from Oslo, the month after that Helsinki and Copenhagen too. The verification stack needs to handle all of that on day one, not force a new integration every time the country mix shifts."

The companies involved

Sumsub is a provider of AI-powered trust infrastructure, specializing in compliance operations and identity verification at scale. The company has established a significant presence in the global fintech ecosystem, providing KYC and AML solutions to high-volume platforms. Its client base includes major industry players such as the cryptocurrency exchanges Bybit and Bitpanda, as well as the digital payment platform Wirex. Sumsub’s infrastructure is increasingly focused on "non-doc" methods, moving away from traditional passport and ID card scanning in favor of direct data source verification.

The Nordic eID schemes involved in this bundle represent some of the most successful digital identity implementations globally. These systems are typically managed by consortiums of major regional banks or telecom-backed providers. For instance, Swedish BankID is owned by the country’s leading commercial banks, while Bank Norwegian—a significant player in the regional retail banking sector—utilizes these schemes for its own customer onboarding. The integration of these disparate national systems into a single API reflects a broader market trend toward regional compliance hubs.

What FF News has reported before

Sumsub is a frequent subject of coverage at FF News, with 88 prior stories documenting the company's expansion and technical milestones. Most recently, on September 7, 2026, we reported on how BTCC and Sumsub Reveal How Automated KYC Slashes Verification Times to 3 Seconds. This collaboration highlighted the company's ability to streamline identity verification and AML processes for high-traffic crypto exchanges. Our extensive archive also includes coverage of Sumsub’s partnerships with other major fintech entities, such as Bybit and Bitpanda, illustrating the company's role as a central infrastructure provider for the digital asset and broader financial services sectors as they navigate evolving regulatory requirements across different jurisdictions.

What this means

This announcement signals a shift in the identity verification market from document processing to data orchestration. In regions like the Nordics, where digital identity adoption is near-universal, the traditional "scan your passport" model is becoming an unnecessary hurdle. By bundling these schemes, Sumsub is challenging the traditional per-market licensing model that has historically slowed down cross-border expansion in Europe. This puts pressure on legacy KYC providers to move beyond OCR technology and secure direct integrations with national identity databases. Furthermore, as the industry looks toward the EUDI Wallet, the ability to aggregate multiple national eID schemes into a single commercial and technical framework will likely become the standard requirement for any compliance provider operating in the Eurozone.
