Zumo Launches UK Cryptoasset Regulation Tracker to Simplify FCA Compliance for Fintechs
By Lauren Towner · 30 September 2026
Zumo has launched a UK Cryptoasset Regulation Tracker to help financial institutions navigate the Financial Conduct Authority’s incoming regulatory regime. With the authorisation gateway opening today, firms must act quickly to avoid operational limitations or forced wind-downs. For fintech professionals, this tool addresses the immediate practical challenge of translating hundreds of pages of complex policy into actionable compliance steps.
What was announced
The UK Cryptoasset Regulation Tracker is a web application designed to simplify the transition to the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) new rules for digital assets. The timing is critical; the FCA’s authorisation gateway opens today, 30th September 2026, and firms are advised to submit their applications by the end of February 2027. This window is intended to allow the regulator enough time to process applications before the full regulatory regime for cryptoassets takes effect on 25th October 2027.
The tracker is built for a variety of entities, including crypto brokers, trading platforms, and stablecoin issuers. It translates complex regulatory language into plain English and maps out key milestones from the start of UK cryptoasset supervision through to the final rules published in June 2026. Users can navigate specific papers, such as PS26/11, which details conduct and operational rules for regulated cryptoasset activities. Each obligation is linked back to the original source text and verified by a named regulatory analyst at Zumo.
This launch comes as Zumo’s research indicates a significant readiness gap. While 90% of providers intend to apply for authorisation, only 10% consider themselves fully prepared. Furthermore, 60% of firms believe their current operating models would be exposed to regulatory enforcement, and half (50%) are concerned about the prospect of financial penalties or regulatory sanctions.
"Everyone else publishing a UK regime tracker is a law firm or a consultancy. That work is valuable, of course, but it stops at the same place every time: here is what the rule says, here is what you should think about, and then the hard sell is to come and talk to us about your position."

The companies involved
Zumo is an Edinburgh and London-based crypto-as-a-service platform that functions as a market access specialist for the digital asset sector. The company provides the underlying infrastructure that allows other financial institutions to offer crypto solutions that align with UK regulatory standards. Unlike traditional consultancies, Zumo operates as an industry participant, meaning its internal engineering requirements directly inform the compliance tools it brings to market.
The firm has established itself as a significant player in the UK fintech ecosystem, with a focus on bridging the gap between traditional finance and the digital asset economy. Led by Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder Nick Jones, Zumo has expanded its remit beyond simple wallet services to become a provider of B2B infrastructure. This positioning allows the company to build systems that satisfy regulatory obligations for its clients, rather than merely providing legal advice. The company’s perspective is rooted in the practicalities of maintaining a regulated business under the scrutiny of the Financial Conduct Authority, making it a primary stakeholder in the successful implementation of the UK's new cryptoasset framework.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely followed Zumo’s efforts to prepare the market for shifting regulatory landscapes. On 15th September 2026, we reported that Zumo and Zeyro Launch Compliance Bridge for UK Crypto Market Entry, highlighting the company's focus on cross-border compliance. This followed our report on 14th July 2026, Crypto Firms Face UK Market Exit Risk as Regulatory Readiness Lags Behind Ambition, which first identified the widespread lack of preparation among service providers.
Zumo’s focus on compliance also extends to environmental standards. In March 2025, we covered how Safello Teams Up With Zumo to Set the Standard for Sustainability in Sweden’s Crypto Sector. Additionally, our January 2025 report, Less Than a Third of Crypto Companies Fully Understand MiCA Sustainability Reporting Obligations, underscored the ongoing struggle firms face in interpreting complex European and UK mandates.
What this means
The launch of this tracker highlights a growing tension in the UK fintech sector: the divide between regulatory intent and technical execution. As the FCA moves from consultation to enforcement, the burden of proof is shifting to firms to demonstrate not just awareness, but operational compliance. The fact that 60% of firms feel their current models are exposed suggests that the "move fast and break things" era of crypto is being forcibly replaced by a regime of heavy oversight. This puts significant pressure on smaller players who lack the internal legal resources of larger institutions. The industry now faces a consolidation risk where only those with the capital to overhaul their systems will survive the October 2027 deadline.
