Fivecast has launched OPENSCREEN, an AI-powered due diligence platform designed to bridge the gap between traditional screening data and the digital footprint of individuals and entities. For fintech professionals, this represents a shift toward holistic risk assessment, integrating social media intelligence with sanctions and PEP lists to combat increasingly sophisticated financial crime.

What was announced

Fivecast OPENSCREEN is a due diligence solution tailored for financial institutions, insurers, and corporate security teams. The platform consolidates disparate data points—including sanctions, Politically Exposed Person (PEP) records, employment and education verification, and adverse media—into a single risk report. Crucially, it adds a layer of online intelligence by analyzing content from over 300 social media sources.

The system utilizes automated account resolution to replace manual searching, offering configurable historical analysis spanning one, five, or ten years of activity. Reports are generated in minutes and are underpinned by Customized Screening Criteria (CSC), allowing teams to align the output with specific risk profiles and screening objectives. By selecting reports suited to specific engagements, analysts can focus on relevant findings and support faster, more defensible decisions.

The launch comes as regulatory shifts, such as FinCEN’s decision to eliminate beneficial ownership information (BOI) reporting requirements for millions of U.S. companies, create information gaps for compliance officers. OPENSCREEN addresses this by using generative and agentic AI to accelerate identity resolution and summarization. By combining behavioral risk detection and threat network analysis with traditional database checks, the platform aims to reduce manual review efforts while maintaining analyst control over final decisions. It joins the existing Fivecast suite, which includes the Fivecast ONYX, Fivecast MATRIX, and Fivecast LUNEX platforms.

"Traditional screening was built for a more static risk environment, but risk increasingly lives and evolves online. Organisations don’t need more data. They need better context and connections to surface the signals that matter. Fivecast OPENSCREEN is purpose-built to bring that online footprint layer into the screening process so analysts can work more efficiently, and their organisations can meet regulatory requirements, mitigate reputational risk and stay ahead of rapidly evolving threats."

The companies involved

Fivecast is a global provider of risk intelligence solutions, specializing in the application of artificial intelligence to open-source intelligence (OSINT). Headquartered in Australia with a significant global presence, the company was co-founded by Dr. Brenton Cooper and Duane Rivett. Fivecast has established itself as a key player in the national security and public safety sectors, where its technology is utilized by government agencies to analyze complex threat networks and identify risks when lives are on the line.

The company’s expansion into the commercial sector reflects a growing demand for the high-level intelligence capabilities typically reserved for defense and law enforcement. By leveraging AI to process massive volumes of unstructured data from the surface, deep, and dark web, Fivecast provides tools that help organizations navigate a landscape of evolving digital threats. Its product ecosystem is designed to provide actionable insights from the vast amount of data generated online, positioning the firm as a bridge between traditional investigative techniques and modern, AI-driven data science. The company operates at the intersection of big data and security, providing the infrastructure necessary for organizations to vet customers, claimants, and contractors with the same rigor applied to national security threats.

What this means

The launch of OPENSCREEN highlights a critical pivot in the KYC and AML landscape. As traditional data sources like beneficial ownership registries face regulatory rollbacks in jurisdictions like the U.S., the burden of proof is shifting back to the financial institution. This creates a vacuum that "static" database checks cannot fill. The industry is under pressure to move beyond simple "match" detection toward behavioral analysis. By integrating social media and online footprints into standard due diligence, Fivecast is challenging the adequacy of legacy screening providers. The open question remains how regulators will view the use of AI-summarized social data in formal compliance audits.
