Financial verification network Veriv has appointed four senior executives to its leadership team to scale its global infrastructure and security controls. By hiring veterans from Thomson Reuters, FIS, and Thread Bank, the firm aims to strengthen its adaptive delivery technology as regulated institutions face mounting pressure to modernize data validation.

What was announced

Veriv has filled four critical leadership roles to oversee its technology, product, and security operations. Shepley Smith joins as Chief Technology Officer from Thread Bank, where he led product and data platform strategy as Chief Product Officer. Smith previously spent a decade at Confirmation.com, rising to Chief Product Officer before its acquisition by Thomson Reuters, where he later served as VP of Product Management for Audit and Verification solutions. Jake Gutting has been named Chief Product Officer, bringing experience from FIS, where he led research and development for risk and fraud solutions, and Ncontracts, where he served as SVP of Product Management. Gutting also previously held the CPO role at Confirmation.com.

Rozel Kouadio takes on the combined role of Chief Information Security Officer, Data Privacy and Fraud Risk Officer. Kouadio’s background includes security leadership at Kraft Heinz and Reyes Holdings, as well as cyber-risk due diligence for billion-dollar mergers and acquisitions. Finally, Emily Nichols joins as Head of Global Implementation to manage the onboarding of customers and financial institutions. Nichols previously worked in client operations at Confirmation.com and Thomson Reuters. These appointments are designed to support Veriv’s platform, which utilizes patent-pending adaptive delivery technology to provide fast, source-direct verifications for mortgage lending, commercial audits, and government eligibility across 70 countries.

The companies involved

Veriv is a Chicago-headquartered financial verification network that operates as a unified platform for requesting and validating financial data. With additional offices in Nashville and London, the company provides services across more than 70 countries. Its primary focus is on standardizing the exchange of sensitive information within the mortgage, lending, and commercial audit sectors, where manual processes have traditionally introduced risk and delay. The company’s market position is defined by its "direct from the source" model, which bypasses third-party data aggregators to provide more defensible audit trails for regulated institutions.

Several members of the new leadership team share a common history at Confirmation.com, a major player in the audit confirmation space that was acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2019. This shared expertise suggests a strategic focus on the intersection of audit technology and broader financial verification. Veriv positions itself as a modern alternative to legacy verification infrastructure, emphasizing speed and regulatory compliance through its proprietary adaptive delivery technology that returns data directly from the source to meet the requirements of regulated firms.

What FF News has reported before

FF News previously covered the company’s market entry and expansion strategy. In the report Veriv Launches Unified Verification Network and Acquires bankVOD to Modernize Financial Data Infrastructure, we detailed how the firm combined its platform launch with the strategic acquisition of bankVOD. That move was intended to unify financial verification across mortgage and audit sectors, providing a foundation for the global network that the current leadership appointments are now tasked with scaling. The acquisition of bankVOD was a significant step in establishing Veriv’s "source-direct" data pipe, which remains the core value proposition of its current technology stack.

What this means

The hiring of a "Confirmation.com alumni" cohort signals a serious attempt to dominate the commercial audit and verification space. By pulling talent from established giants like FIS and Thomson Reuters, Veriv is challenging the status quo of legacy data aggregators who often struggle with real-time accuracy and "source-of-truth" requirements. The industry is currently under immense pressure to automate fraud detection without sacrificing data privacy. This move puts traditional verification providers on notice; if Veriv can successfully scale its adaptive delivery technology across 70 countries, the market may shift away from cached data toward the direct-from-source model that regulators increasingly prefer.
