W Group Unveils hashbank: A Fully Licensed Bridge Between Traditional Banking and Web3
By Lauren Towner · 8 October 2026

W Group has unveiled the next development phase for hashbank, a fully licensed universal digital bank bridging traditional finance and the Web3 economy. For fintech professionals, this represents a rare convergence of regulated banking licenses with native crypto wallet connectivity, potentially solving the friction between fiat systems and decentralized asset management within a single mobile environment.
What was announced
hashbank is a universal digital bank that integrates traditional banking services with the infrastructure of the open Web3 economy. Unlike traditional models where bank accounts and crypto infrastructure operate as siloed systems, this platform allows users to manage both within a single mobile application. The service supports more than 150 digital assets, enabling customers to receive assets from external wallets, exchange them for fiat currency, and utilize standard banking services. Users can also send digital assets directly to external blockchain addresses.
The platform operates under a full banking license from the National Bank of Georgia, which was obtained in 2023. Since moving into a live environment in 2024, the bank has grown to serve approximately 60,000 customers across 73 countries. Security for these transactions is managed through a combination of authentication, address verification, anti-money-laundering (AML) procedures, and blockchain analytics. This creates a borderless banking model where fiat, crypto assets, and international money transfers are handled in one place.
The next stage of hashbank’s development will focus on expanding its international financial infrastructure, specifically targeting international payment rails, new currencies, and cross-border corridors. This development includes the creation of banking-as-a-service (BaaS) and embedded banking offerings. These tools are designed to serve end customers as well as fintech companies, crypto platforms, and other businesses that require regulated financial access. Within the South Caucasus and Central Asia, it is the first fully licensed bank to offer this specific integrated model.
"We are not building businesses that exist only in Web2 or only in Web3. The biggest opportunities will emerge between them. Our task is to build the infrastructure - bridge - that allows these worlds to work together. hashbank is one example of this strategy. It is a fully licensed digital bank that is open to new financial networks and capable of connecting different currencies, platforms and systems,"
Volodymyr Nosov, Founder and President of W Group.
The companies involved
W Group is a financial ecosystem provider that oversees a range of businesses serving approximately 40 million users globally. The group’s strategy focuses on a full-cycle financial model where banking, payments, and blockchain infrastructure operate in tandem. A key component of this ecosystem is WhiteBIT, a major cryptocurrency exchange with a user base of 10 million. Volodymyr Nosov serves as the Chief Executive Officer of WhiteBIT in addition to his leadership role at W Group.
hashbank operates as a licensed entity within this ecosystem, benefiting from direct integration and strategic synergy with WhiteBIT while maintaining the independent governance required by its banking license. Led by CEO Goga Chanadiri, hashbank positions itself as a bridge between traditional Georgian banking and the global digital asset market. The bank’s ability to connect with broad external-wallet providers differentiates it from traditional regional players. By combining everyday cross-border banking with direct crypto exchange connectivity, the entity aims to provide a regulated environment for both individual retail customers and business entities seeking exposure to digital assets.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has previously tracked the global expansion and strategic partnerships of the W Group ecosystem. This includes reporting on how WhiteBIT and FC Barcelona Announce Five-Year Agreement to Drive Global Innovation in Sport, a move that significantly increased the exchange's visibility on the international stage. Additionally, the broader industry context of regulatory compliance remains a focal point for the publication, as seen in reports like Indirect Exposure Named Top Sanctions Risk for 41% of Payments Professionals. These stories highlight the dual pressure on fintech firms to scale globally while navigating the complex compliance requirements that hashbank is now addressing through its fully licensed banking model in Georgia.
What this means
The launch of a fully licensed bank with native Web3 connectivity moves the needle by challenging the "walled garden" approach of traditional retail banks. By integrating blockchain analytics and AML directly into the banking app, hashbank is addressing the primary hurdle for institutional and retail adoption: the friction of off-ramping. This puts pressure on traditional regional banks in the South Caucasus and Central Asia to modernize their digital asset policies or risk losing deposits to hybrid platforms. The move also raises questions for the wider sector about whether a single license can sufficiently cover the risks of 150+ digital assets across 73 different jurisdictions.
