Bahrain FinTech Bay Pivots to AI Product Development and Global Scaling at Fintech Forward 2026
By Lauren Towner · 8 October 2026

Bahrain FinTech Bay has pivoted from its traditional role as a market connector to a product development partner, launching a suite of AI-driven services and infrastructure access at Fintech Forward 2026. For fintech professionals, this signals a shift in how regional hubs support scaling, moving beyond networking into the direct provision of technical tools and cloud-native development environments.
What was announced
The new strategic direction for Bahrain FinTech Bay (BFB) involves a transition toward developing tangible products and solutions alongside its partners. Central to this expansion is the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) products and services specifically designed for financial institutions. These offerings are delivered in collaboration with technology providers and are intended to assist banks and other financial entities in the practical implementation of automated technologies.
The initiative includes a comprehensive AI training program. This curriculum is structured to serve a broad spectrum of professional needs, ranging from high-level strategy courses tailored for senior leadership to practical, operational training for teams managing day-to-day tasks. To support the technical requirements of these advancements, BFB is expanding access to digital infrastructure, specifically integrating Google Cloud infrastructure. This allows fintech companies to build, test, and scale their solutions directly from Bahrain.
While BFB maintains its focus on the financial services sector, its subsidiary, Innovate for Bahrain (I4BH), has been tasked with a broader mandate. I4BH will develop AI products and services for industries outside of finance, ensuring that the push for automation reaches other sectors of the economy. These developments were formalized through a series of agreements signed on the first day of Fintech Forward 2026, an event hosted by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), programmed by Forbes Middle East, and supported by the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) and the Labor Fund “Tamkeen.”
"Bahrain has spent years building a strong fintech ecosystem, and our next step is to make that ecosystem work even harder for companies and financial institutions. Through this new direction, BFB will help fintech companies set up and grow from Bahrain, and help our banks adopt AI with the right partners. The agreements we signed at Fintech Forward 2026 are where that starts."

The companies involved
Bahrain FinTech Bay (BFB) is a dedicated fintech hub that operates as a central pillar of the Kingdom’s financial technology strategy. It functions through a strategic partnership with the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) and maintains a close working relationship with the regulator, the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB). BFB’s primary mandates are to assist fintech firms in establishing a presence in Bahrain before scaling across the GCC and the wider MENA region, while simultaneously driving digital transformation within the local financial services sector.
The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) is the national investment promotion agency responsible for attracting foreign investment to the Kingdom and supporting initiatives that enhance the local investment climate. Innovate for Bahrain (I4BH), a subsidiary of BFB, serves as an innovation platform that manages AI-first programs and startup accelerators. I4BH acts as a bridge between government, corporate entities, and academia to foster cross-sector technological adoption. Together, these organizations form a coordinated infrastructure designed to maintain Bahrain’s competitive position in the Middle East’s financial technology landscape.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely followed the evolution of Bahrain’s fintech ecosystem and BFB’s role in its expansion. In late 2025, the publication covered how Bahrain and Singapore Lead the Future of Digital Public Infrastructure, highlighting the Kingdom’s focus on cross-border technological standards. BFB has also been active in sector-specific partnerships, such as when Bahrain Fintech Bay and Tether Announce Strategic MoU to advance blockchain innovation and education.
Further collaboration was seen when Beyon Solutions and Bahrain Fintech Bay Sign MoU to support digital transformation efforts. Additionally, the hub has focused on social impact and diversity within the sector, as evidenced by the report on how Standard Chartered Awards $75,000 to Women-Led Startups in Bahrain, a program facilitated by BFB to support underrepresented founders.
What this means
This strategic shift marks a maturation of the "fintech hub" model in the Middle East. For years, regional hubs have competed primarily on the basis of regulatory sandboxes and networking opportunities. By moving into product development and providing direct access to Google Cloud infrastructure, Bahrain FinTech Bay is positioning itself as a technical co-developer rather than just a landlord or facilitator. This puts pressure on other regional centers, such as those in Dubai or Riyadh, to offer more than just administrative support. The focus on AI training for senior leaders also addresses a critical bottleneck: the gap between executive strategy and technical implementation in legacy banking institutions.
