Press Release: N26 Expands Flexible Cash Fund Access Across All Membership Tiers | Featured Image by FF News

N26 has expanded its Flexible Cash Fund to all membership tiers, offering a promotional yield of up to 2.57% p.a. until 2027. This move signals a shift in digital banking strategy, as neobanks increasingly leverage money market funds to provide yield-seeking customers with liquidity and returns that traditional savings accounts may struggle to match.

What was announced

The expansion makes the Flexible Cash Fund available to new and existing customers across the entire N26 membership spectrum, including the Standard, Smart, You/Go, and Metal tiers. Previously restricted to specific account types, the product is now accessible in ten European markets: Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, and Spain. The fund is managed by Fidelity International and provides direct access to short-term, high-quality money market instruments.

A key component of the rollout is a promotional period lasting until 1 January 2027. During this window, every membership tier will receive the maximum introductory yield of up to 2.57% p.a., with N26 waiving its standard service fees. Following the promotion, tiered service fees will apply: 0.30% p.a. for Standard, 0.25% p.a. for Smart, and 0.20% p.a. for Go. The Metal tier will continue to have no N26 service fee applied. The variable annual return rate of 2.57% is presented net of fund fees and reflects data provided by Fidelity International as of 8 October 2026.

The product features a low entry barrier with a minimum investment of €1 and offers high liquidity through unlimited deposits and withdrawals without transaction fees. While designed for stability with a risk rating of 1 out of 7 and a suggested minimum holding period of six months, the fund is a regulated investment rather than a traditional deposit. This means capital is at risk and returns are variable. Value accrues daily, with payouts distributed on a monthly basis, though proceeds from sales may take up to 2 business days to be reflected in a customer’s account.

"Maximize cash potential and returns with our flexible cash fund – yielding up to 2.57%* p.a. A fund is not a deposit. The yield is variable and capital is at risk."

The companies involved

N26 is a prominent European digital bank that has undergone significant leadership transitions recently. Founded by Valentin Stalf, who transitioned to the company’s supervisory board in August 2025, the bank is currently led by CEO Mike Dargan and Co-CEO Marcus W. Mosen. Dargan took the helm in late 2025, following a period of organizational restructuring aimed at strengthening the bank's governance and market position.

The firm operates as a fully licensed bank, providing a mobile-first experience that has historically focused on streamlined retail banking. However, its recent strategy has seen a pivot toward becoming a comprehensive financial hub. The Flexible Cash Fund sits alongside N26’s existing investment suite, which includes Stocks, ETFs, and Crypto trading. By integrating these products directly into the app, N26 competes with both traditional retail banks and specialized investment platforms. With over 50 major reports on its operations in recent years, the bank remains a central figure in the European fintech landscape, navigating a shift from rapid customer acquisition to deepening product engagement across its diverse membership tiers.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed N26’s evolution, particularly its recent leadership overhaul. In late 2025, we reported that N26 Appoints Mike Dargan as New CEO, a move that coincided with N26 Announces Leadership Updates with Marcus W. Mosen Appointed as Co-CEO. These changes followed the news that N26 Founder Valentin Stalf to Move to Digital Bank’s Supervisory Board. Beyond executive shifts, N26 has been active in product diversification; earlier in 2025, N26 Strengthens Travel Offer With Travel eSIM Mobile Plans and 1% Cashback on International Travel Spend, highlighting the bank's efforts to expand its lifestyle and travel-related financial services.

What this means

This expansion reflects a broader industry trend where neobanks are evolving into wealth-management hybrids to capture deposits in a fluctuating interest-rate environment. By offering money market funds to all users, N26 is directly challenging traditional banks that have been slow to pass on higher rates to savers. However, the move also highlights a growing complexity in retail banking: the blurring of lines between "savings" and "investments." As neobanks push capital-at-risk products as alternatives to deposits, the sector faces a critical test of customer education. The success of this strategy will depend on whether retail users prioritize the 2.57% yield over the security of traditional deposit guarantee schemes.
