Basware has finalized its acquisition of payment fraud prevention platform Trustpair, bridging the gap between invoice approval and fund disbursement. For fintech professionals, this move signals a shift toward integrated financial integrity, ensuring that even when an invoice is verified as accurate and compliant, the final payment destination is also authenticated against sophisticated supplier identity fraud.

What was announced

The acquisition, which follows an initial agreement reached in August, positions Basware as a provider of end-to-end lifecycle assurance. While Basware traditionally focuses on Invoice Lifecycle Management (ILM)—verifying that an obligation is authentic, accurate, and approved—Trustpair adds a layer of payment assurance. This involves validating that a supplier is genuine and that the bank account details provided actually belong to that specific entity.

Trustpair will maintain its independent operations, keeping its existing platform, customer contracts, and specialist focus. Crucially for the market, Trustpair will continue its "open ecosystem" strategy, supporting integrations across various ERP, treasury, and procure-to-pay platforms regardless of whether the client uses Basware. This allows customers to deploy Trustpair’s fraud prevention tools across their existing finance environments without being locked into a single vendor's suite.

The combined data footprint of the two entities is significant. Basware currently serves over 6,500 customers, managing a foundation of 2.5 billion invoices and 20 million suppliers. By layering Trustpair’s fraud-specific intelligence over this dataset, the companies aim to identify risks earlier in the procurement cycle. This addresses a growing trend where fraudsters target supplier identities and bank details rather than tampering with the invoices themselves. The integration allows finance teams to maintain trust from the moment supplier data enters the system through to the final release of funds.

"Trustpair has built a distinct capability around one of the most important control challenges facing finance teams today. An invoice can be authentic and accurate, but the financial outcome is still wrong if the payment goes to the wrong account. By bringing Basware’s invoice lifecycle management capabilities together with Trustpair’s payment assurance, we can help customers make that complete financial decision with greater confidence. Since we announced the agreement, customers have told us this is the missing piece they have been waiting for, and that excitement has only grown as we get closer to bringing our capabilities together."

The companies involved

Basware is a global specialist in Invoice Lifecycle Management, providing tools that automate the accounts payable process and ensure global compliance. The company has a long-standing presence in the fintech sector, recently expanding its reach through the SAP Store to automate global e-invoicing compliance. It has positioned itself as a data-heavy player, leveraging trillions of dollars in transaction data to provide benchmarking tools for CFOs. The company focuses on helping finance teams determine if an obligation is authentic and compliant before it reaches the payment stage.

Trustpair, founded nine years ago, is a leading platform dedicated to preventing B2B payment fraud. Based in France, the company has built its reputation on a system-agnostic approach, allowing it to sit within various finance environments to validate bank ownership in real-time. Before this acquisition, Trustpair operated as an independent specialist, focusing on the specific vulnerabilities that arise when supplier data is modified or when social engineering is used to divert payments. The company has been a significant player in the European fintech landscape, particularly as businesses grapple with the complexities of digital transformation and the increasing sophistication of AI-driven fraud.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed Basware’s strategic expansion throughout 2026. What this means

This acquisition highlights a critical vulnerability in the traditional procure-to-pay (P2P) stack: the disconnect between document verification and payment execution. By merging these functions, Basware is putting pressure on traditional ERP providers and standalone AP automation tools that treat "payment" as a separate, downstream event. The industry is moving toward a model where financial integrity is a continuous process rather than a series of siloed checks. As AI makes deepfake-style supplier fraud more accessible, the market will likely demand that invoice processing and bank account validation exist within the same governed lifecycle. The open-ecosystem approach remains a test of whether such integrated security can truly remain platform-agnostic.
