UK consumers can now access their personalised Experian Credit Score directly within ChatGPT, marking a significant shift in how financial data is integrated into generative AI. For fintech professionals, this represents a major step toward embedded finance within AI ecosystems, moving beyond generic advice toward authenticated, user-specific financial insights.

What was announced

Experian has launched a major upgrade to its ChatGPT app, allowing UK users to securely connect their Experian accounts to view their unique 1250 Experian Credit Score. This integration addresses a common limitation of AI platforms, which previously could only provide general financial information based on public sources. By authenticating their identity, users can now see their score history, track score bands, and receive a breakdown of the factors influencing their creditworthiness without leaving the ChatGPT interface.

The service is designed for the 62% of regular ChatGPT users who already turn to AI for financial goal-setting. It specifically targets the 18–34 demographic, where 38% cite personal finance education as a top goal but remain less likely to have checked their credit score through traditional means. Beyond score tracking, the app includes a comparison table for current account offers, helping users act on their financial data immediately. Security remains a central pillar of the upgrade; the credit score is displayed via a secure Experian widget, ensuring the sensitive data is not exposed to or used by the underlying AI model for training or response generation.

"Today we're giving people secure access to their own personalised score, with a clear explanation of what's behind it, inside the AI platform millions already use every day. As people increasingly seek money advice on a range of different channels, it’s important the information they get is accurate and genuine. This is fundamental to our strategy of meeting people wherever they choose to engage with us and helping make credit understanding truly accessible, especially for younger consumers who are growing up with AI as their first port of call for financial questions."

Edu Castro, Managing Director of Experian Consumer Services UK&I.

The companies involved

Experian is a global leader in information services and a dominant force in the UK credit market. The company powers the majority of lending decisions in the United Kingdom, including approximately 8 in 10 credit card applications. This market position makes its credit score one of the most critical benchmarks for UK consumers seeking to understand their financial standing and eligibility for credit products.

In recent years, Experian has aggressively expanded its digital verification and data capabilities. This includes the acquisition of Konfir to bolster its employment and income verification services and the launch of proprietary tools like Identity Connect. By integrating with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Experian is positioning itself at the intersection of traditional credit reporting and the emerging "AI-first" consumer behavior. The move reflects a broader corporate strategy to transition from a behind-the-scenes data provider to a consumer-facing financial health partner, leveraging its vast data sets to provide utility across third-party digital platforms.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed Experian’s recent technological expansions and its focus on digital security. We previously covered how Experian UK&I Strengthens Its Leading Digital Verification Capabilities With the Addition of Konfir, a move that enhanced its verification speed. We also reported on the launch of Experian Launches Identity Connect to Streamline UK Digital Verification and Fraud Prevention, highlighting the firm's commitment to reducing friction in the digital economy. Additionally, our coverage of the Experian Report Highlights AI Trust Gap as Fraud Losses Surge to 159 Billion underscores the delicate balance the firm must strike between AI innovation and consumer protection.

What this means

This is a defensive and offensive masterstroke. By embedding in ChatGPT, Experian prevents "AI hallucinations" from eroding the authority of its credit data. It also puts immense pressure on competitors like Equifax and TransUnion to move beyond their own walled gardens. The real test, however, will be user trust. While Experian claims the AI model cannot "see" the data in the widget, convincing privacy-conscious users to link their financial identity to a generative AI platform is a high bar. If successful, this sets the stage for a future where AI agents don't just give advice, but execute financial transactions based on real-time credit eligibility.
