Emirates NBD Partners with Visa and Tripadvisor to Launch UAE’s First Bank-Led AI Travel Assistant
By Lauren Towner · 9 October 2026

Emirates NBD has launched the UAE’s first bank-led AI Travel Assistant in collaboration with Visa and Tripadvisor. For fintech professionals, this represents a significant shift toward ecosystem-led banking, where financial institutions integrate lifestyle services directly into their digital platforms to capture high-value consumer engagement outside of traditional transactional boundaries.
What was announced
The AI Travel Assistant is a conversational platform designed to streamline the travel planning process, which currently takes UAE residents up to three months of research per trip. By leveraging Tripadvisor’s data repository of over 1 billion reviews and 8 million listings, the tool provides tailored itineraries and destination recommendations through a natural language interface. The service focuses on the top 15 destinations favoured by UAE travellers and is accessible to the general public via the Emirates NBD website and a dedicated Tripadvisor domain, requiring no bank login or account.
Beyond itinerary planning, the assistant dynamically integrates Visa cardholder benefits, such as hotel discounts and car rental perks, directly into the user’s travel flow. The initiative responds to regional data showing that UAE travellers plan an average of seven trips per year. Furthermore, research indicates that 50% of consumers in the EMEA region are now comfortable using AI platforms to book holiday accommodation. By consolidating fragmented research into a single conversation, the tool aims to reduce the complexity of trip planning while positioning the bank as a central lifestyle partner. The platform is currently available in English and is free for all users, regardless of whether they are existing customers of the bank.

The companies involved
Emirates NBD is a major banking group operating across the Middle East, North Africa, Türkiye, and South Asia (MENATSA) region. It has established itself as a leader in the digital banking space, frequently moving beyond traditional financial services to offer lifestyle-integrated solutions. Visa, a global leader in digital payments, provides the underlying payment expertise and cardholder benefits that power the assistant's value proposition. Visa has a massive footprint in the fintech sector, with its technology facilitating everything from consumer credit to complex business-to-business payments. Tripadvisor, the third partner in this collaboration, is a global travel guidance platform. It provides the extensive data and user-generated content necessary to fuel the AI’s recommendations. Together, these three entities represent a convergence of finance, data, and travel technology, reflecting a broader market trend where established financial institutions partner with specialized tech giants to maintain relevance against digital-native challengers in the Middle East.

What this means
This move signals that the "super-app" philosophy is evolving into "super-services" within the banking sector. By offering a tool that requires no login, Emirates NBD is prioritising top-of-funnel engagement over immediate transactional lock-in. This puts pressure on traditional travel agencies and standalone fintechs who rely on being the primary interface for lifestyle spending. The industry is moving toward a model where the bank is no longer just a vault for funds, but a proactive advisor. The success of this initiative will likely depend on whether the AI can truly offer superior recommendations compared to manual search, or if it remains a novel marketing layer on top of existing data.
