Visa Becomes Official Global Supporter of AFC Champions League for 2026-2029 Cycle
By Lauren Towner · 6 October 2026

Visa has secured a multi-year agreement as the Official Global Supporter for the Asian Football Confederation’s premier club competitions through 2029. For fintech professionals, this represents a strategic deepening of payment rail integration within the high-growth Asian sports economy, leveraging ticket pre-sales and digital activations to drive card usage across diverse emerging and established markets.
What was announced
The partnership designates Visa as an Official Global Supporter for three major club competitions: the AFC Champions League Elite™, the AFC Champions League Two™, and the AFC Women's Champions League™. This agreement covers the 2026-2029 cycle, significantly expanding Visa’s footprint in the region following its existing commitments to the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ and the AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™.
As the global payment services partner, Visa will implement preferred card acceptance at the AFC Champions League Elite™ Finals. Cardholders will also benefit from exclusive ticket pre-sales, providing early access to high-demand fixtures across the continent. Beyond transactional utility, the deal includes experiential elements such as access to the Official Coin Toss, exclusive stadium experiences, and digital activations at selected matches. These opportunities will be distributed through Visa’s extensive network of member banks, allowing local financial institutions to offer unique value-adds to their own customers. The inclusion of the Women’s Champions League highlights a specific focus on the growth of the women’s game in Asia, providing a platform for Visa to engage with a rapidly expanding demographic of football fans.
"Visa’s partnership with the AFC reflects our belief in the power of sport to connect people, communities and economies. As Asia’s premier club competitions continue to grow in reach and influence, we are proud to bring our global payment services expertise to help create more secure and more rewarding experiences for fans. From enabling easier access to tickets to supporting memorable matchday moments, this partnership is another way Visa is helping fans get closer to the game while supporting the continued growth of both men’s and women’s football across the region."

What this means
This expansion into Asian club football is a calculated move to secure brand loyalty in a region where the payment landscape is rapidly evolving. By securing preferred card acceptance and pre-sale rights, Visa is positioning itself as the indispensable rail for the sports economy, a sector that remains resilient even during economic volatility. The challenge for Visa lies in the intense competition from regional super-apps and local real-time payment schemes that have historically bypassed card networks in many Asian markets. This partnership serves as a high-visibility defensive maneuver, using the emotional pull of football to ensure Visa remains the top-of-wallet choice for millions of fans. It raises the question of how competitors will respond to maintain their own share of the Asian sports market.
