Backbase has launched Delivery Factory, an AI-driven software environment designed to accelerate digital banking deployments. By pairing human delivery teams with specialized AI agents throughout the development lifecycle, the platform aims to double implementation speeds and reduce manual requirements effort by 80%, addressing the chronic bottleneck of slow software delivery in highly regulated financial services.

What was announced

Backbase’s Delivery Factory is an AI software factory purpose-built for the banking industry. Unlike generic AI coding assistants that focus primarily on the immediate block of code, this system integrates project context—including scoping documents, architecture specifications, and workshop notes—into a shared environment. This ensures that requirements remain consistent from the initial design phase through to final implementation and review, preventing the loss of critical decisions during handoffs.

The platform introduces a suite of specialized AI agents tailored to specific roles within a banking project. A Business Analyst Agent converts project context into user stories and acceptance criteria for Jira, while a Solution Architect Agent assists in weighing design decisions and identifying reusable services. For the development phase, Backend, Mobile, and Web Agents generate implementation plans based on the bank’s specific Backbase version. Engineers then inspect these plans and code changes within their own tools before work progresses through the bank's existing delivery pipelines.

Data from over 10 implementations in the past year indicates that teams using Delivery Factory work twice as fast as traditional teams and 30% faster than those using generic AI tools. The reported results include a 40% reduction in coding and review effort and a 60% increase in test and automation coverage. Additionally, Backbase introduced a Migration Agent for transitioning legacy logic to its Banking OS and an Upgrade Agent to streamline platform maintenance. The suite is now generally available across all global markets.

"Delivering banking software takes a whole team. Business analysts, solution architects, delivery leads and engineers need to stay aligned as a customer requirement becomes a working experience. Delivery Factory gives them and their AI agents a shared foundation: what the bank has agreed on, how its project is designed and how Backbase works. That helps teams spend less time reconstructing context and more time delivering the changes their customers need."

The companies involved

Backbase is a privately funded fintech company headquartered in Amsterdam, known for its Engagement Banking Platform. The company provides the foundational technology—which it refers to as a Banking OS—that allows financial institutions to modernize their customer-facing digital journeys across retail, business, and wealth management sectors.

Backbase has established itself as a significant force in the digital transformation market, moving beyond simple front-end overlays to provide a comprehensive orchestration layer for banking services. The company’s strategy focuses on reducing the complexity of legacy systems by providing a unified platform that sits above core banking engines. With a global footprint, Backbase serves a diverse range of clients, from large tier-one banks to smaller community institutions and credit unions. The introduction of the Delivery Factory represents an expansion of its offering from providing software components to providing the automated infrastructure required to deploy and maintain those components at scale.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed Backbase’s recent pivot toward agentic AI and its expansion into new verticals. Earlier this month, the company launched Backbase Launches Conversational Banking: Agentic AI with a Governance Audit Trail, which introduced agentic AI with a specific focus on governance and audit trails. This followed the appointment of Backbase Appoints Tikkie Founder Roland Booijen to Lead Agentic Banking Push to lead the company’s agentic banking strategy.

The firm’s growth in specific regions and sectors has also been a point of focus. In October 2026, the company announced Backbase Appoints Nikhil Gujral to Accelerate APAC Growth Strategy. Furthermore, the company’s impact on specialized sectors was recognized when Backbase Wins 2026 Wealth Management Impact Award for Advisor Desktop Innovation.

What this means

The launch of Delivery Factory marks a shift in the fintech sector from "AI as a feature" to "AI as the infrastructure." By moving beyond simple code completion to automate the translation of business requirements into architecture, Backbase is directly challenging the traditional professional services model that banks have relied on for decades. This puts significant pressure on global system integrators and consultancies whose business models depend on billable hours for manual documentation and testing. The industry must now grapple with whether these AI-led "factories" can maintain the rigorous compliance standards required in banking without introducing unintended logic into core financial workflows.
