At Money20/20 Europe 2023, we caught up with Bart Willaert, EVP of Open Banking International Markets at Mastercard. Mastercard is the second-largest payment-processing corporation in the world and offers a range of financial services to its customers.

“It’s a very exciting opportunity because open banking in the end is all about secure constened ways for customers to share their data with their partners. Account ownership verification is exactly that. Our customers are looking to provide digital onboarding experiences and account ownership verification is a key element in that.”

“It allows us to establish who your customer is and also if the account they’re using to sign up for your service is really the account they’re having and owning. So it’s a good way for us to enable a digital experience, making life simpler for consumers.”
