How Does He Connect Open Source to Sustainability?

A container, he says, is a lot leaner than a physical machine and a lot leaner than a virtual machine. Over the last decade, the financial institutions he works with have refactored applications to containers, which he says has produced a decrease to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, reflected in smaller infrastructure, lower resource consumption and better processes for maintaining a leaner estate.

Although the geopolitical situation appears to have moved away from sustainability as an objective, he finds financial institutions still take it seriously because of their duty to investors and because many of their products are centred on it. He argues that organisations without sustainability among their top three criteria will suffer, if only from an efficiency standpoint, as energy and resources become scarce.
