Deutsche Bank at Sibos 2026: From Pilots to Scaling What Works
By Ali Paterson · 16 September 2026

Quick Summary
Tsvetanka Nankova expects Sibos 2026 to be an evolution rather than a reinvention. After AI dominated 2024 and digital assets dominated 2025, she believes the industry conversation now turns to scaling the pilots, with Deutsche Bank bringing transactional FX, tokenised deposits and a widened trade finance offering to Miami.
How has the Sibos agenda evolved over the past three years?
Nankova reads the last three editions as a single arc. In 2024 the discussion was about artificial intelligence and how it would reshape economies and businesses. In 2025 the focus moved to digital assets and currencies, with stablecoin the undisputed buzzword. Her view of 2026 is that the industry has run enough experiments and now faces a harder question: how to take those MVPs and scale them. Institutions have been experimenting across multiple areas, and the next step is turning that work into something that runs in production across a global network rather than in a controlled pilot.
What is Deutsche Bank bringing to Miami?
The bank attends with a sizable delegation drawn from payments and trade but also trust and securities services, strategy, financial crime risk management and operations. On the product side, Nankova points to concrete progress rather than concepts:
- DBX Convert, the transactional FX solution launched in 2025, significantly enhanced this year with new currency pairs and corridors. She expects transactional FX to be a genuine additional revenue stream for institutions like Deutsche Bank.
- Tokenised deposits, following the first tokenised deposit transaction between Deutsche Bank and DBS on Partior, and this year a first treasury payment between Lloyds and CaixaBank on Project Agora.
- Trade finance solutions for financial institutions that move beyond traditional letters of credit and letters of guarantee, with several campaigns running.
- A partnership with MIGA, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency of the World Bank, opening access to frontier markets and new clients.
Why does the delegation matter as much as the agenda?
Nankova describes colleagues as genuinely looking forward to the week, and the composition of the delegation is the reason: these are thought leaders in the areas they cover, able to talk in detail with partners and peers from other financial institutions about developments in global transaction banking. For a network business, sending the people who can answer the second and third question in a conversation is what converts meetings into partnerships.
FF NEWS TAKE:
Scaling is a far less exciting headline than tokenisation, which is precisely why it is the right one. The list Nankova gives, transactional FX corridors, a second live Agora payment, trade finance beyond letters of credit, is what the hype cycle looks like once it starts paying for itself. Watch whether the industry treats Miami as the year it stops announcing firsts and starts publishing volumes.
