About António Simões

https://www.santander.co.uk/
António Simões is proud to be a banker. After more than two decades working in financial services, he knows the positive impact they can and should have on society. He works at Santander as Regional Head of Europe and part of the Group Management Committee to help make that happen. António joined Legal & General in January 2024, attracted by its strong heritage, people and culture, market-leading performance, and commitment to making a lasting impact in society. Legal & General has been around since 1836 and is still full of energy, and ambitious about the difference it can make for its customers and through its investments around the world. António was born and raised in Portugal and is lucky to have studied in the US and Europe, and worked all over the world through almost three decades in financial services. After a few years living in Madrid, he now lives back in London, which is home for his family. It’s where he met his husband, Tomas, and where their two children have lived most of their lives. António Simões  is a trustee of The Prince’s Trust International, looking to create opportunities and encourage young people to reengage with education, start their own careers, or build their own businesses. Education has given him many opportunities in life, and he is keen to help extend that privilege to others, too. Before joining Santander, António spent 13 years at HSBC in a series of executive positions in London and Hong Kong; starting with strategy and M&A and then moving to leading different businesses as UK/European CEO and finally, global CEO of private banking. Prior to that, he was a partner at McKinsey & Company working in financial services across several geographies. António studied in Lisbon (Nova School of Business and Economics), Milan (Bocconi) and the United States (MBA from Columbia University). In 2009, he was appointed a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and a few years later completed a WEF leadership programme at Harvard Kennedy School. António Simões was previously a member of the Practitioner Panel of the Financial Conduct Authority from July 2013 and was chair of the panel from August 2015 to August 2017. António Simões was also a member of the Practitioner Panel of the Prudential Regulation Authority.
