Antonio Huertas Mejías ( Villanueva de la Serena , Badajoz , January 18, 1964) is a  Spanish executive and current president of the Mapfre group. Antonio Huertas has a degree in law from the University of Salamanca . He has been the president of Mapfre since 2012, appointed by the previous president. Manuel Martínez combines this position with that of president of the Board of Trustees of the Mapfre Foundation. He was president and CEO of Mapfre Puerto Rico and Mapfre Florida (from 2001 to 2004), general director of Mapfre Mutualidad (from 2005 to 2006), president of Mapfre Automóviles, Mapfre Seguros Generales and Mapfre Caja Salud (from 2006 to 2008), president of Mapfre Familiar (from 2006 to 2010) and third vice president of Mapfre, SA from 2011 until his appointment as president. Since February 2012, he was a member of the Business Council for Competitiveness until its closure (2016) and is also a patron of the Queen Sofia Foundation , the Princess of Asturias Foundation , the Spanish Association of Foundations , the Carolina Foundation , the Queen Sofia Museum Foundation and the Ortega Muñoz Foundation , among others. He was the driving force behind Mapfre 's direct business area, initially implemented under the name Verti and later implemented in the rest of the organization through online insurance sales. The model he implemented in this subsidiary will also be exported to other countries such as China and the United States reinforcing its digital strategy with online insurance sales. In the area of ​​internationalization, he has promoted the globalization of the company, supporting this with acquisitions such as Direct Line in Germany and Italy where they will operate under the Verti brand , also continuing the process of digital transformation and the opening of operations in the Chinese market for the initial sale of car insurance, although the country's bureaucracy is delaying the start of the project. Huertas expects that in the coming years the weight of the international business will grow to reach 75% of revenues, while he expects the weight of the digital business to reach 7% (compared to the current 1%).
