Wealthsimple Hits $13.8B Valuation with CAD $425M Equity Round Led by GIC
By Lauren Towner · 29 October 2026

Wealthsimple has secured an equity round of up to CAD $425 million, pushing its valuation to CAD $13.8 billion. This significant capital injection, led by GIC, signals a major consolidation of power in the Canadian fintech landscape as the firm transitions from a niche investment app into a comprehensive primary financial services provider.
What was announced
Wealthsimple has agreed to an equity round totaling up to CAD $425 million, comprising a $300 million primary offering and a secondary offering of up to $125 million. This funding brings the company’s post-money valuation to CAD $13.8 billion. The round was led by GIC, which also co-led the firm's 2025 round, with participation from existing investors including Power Corporation of Canada, IGM Financial Inc., ICONIQ, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), and Inovia. The capital is earmarked for the next phase of growth, specifically accelerating a product roadmap that spans business services, everyday spending, chequing, and investment products. The secondary component allows employees to share in the value they have helped create.
Since its October 2025 raise, which valued the company at CAD $10 billion, Wealthsimple’s assets under administration have grown from $100 billion to $169.2 billion as of September 30, 2026. The company reported its best-ever RRSP season in Q1 2026, and by Q2 2026, new chequing account openings surpassed new investment accounts for the first time. Recent product expansions include commission-free options and futures trading, IPO access, and a business chequing account featuring a 1% cash back Business Visa card. The platform now serves over 4 million Canadians, including one in four citizens aged 18 to 40 and more than 30,000 businesses.
"This raise reflects the deep conviction our partners have in Wealthsimple’s mission and in our role as the company defining the future of financial services in Canada,"

What this means
This CAD $13.8 billion valuation moves Wealthsimple beyond "fintech" status into a direct competitive threat to Canada's Big Five banks. By pivoting from a robo-advisor to a primary chequing and spending hub, the company has addressed the monetization challenges that often plague digital-first platforms. The heavy participation of institutional heavyweights like GIC and CPP Investments suggests the market views the platform as a central pillar of the country's digital banking transition. However, expansion into complex areas like futures trading raises the bar for regulatory scrutiny. The key question is how traditional incumbents will respond to a rival now better capitalized than many mid-tier global banks.
