NatWest Accelerator Expands She Scales Nationwide to Empower UK Female Founders
By Lauren Towner · 5 October 2026

NatWest Accelerator is launching its She Scales initiative nationwide across the United Kingdom following a successful pilot phase. For fintech professionals and the broader startup ecosystem, this expansion represents a significant effort to bridge the gender gap in entrepreneurship by providing female founders with structured access to networking, peer support, and practical growth expertise through 13 regional hubs.
What was announced
The She Scales initiative is moving from a pilot phase to a permanent national program under the identity "Where female founders build their future." The expansion follows a pilot that delivered 68 events across 13 NatWest Accelerator hubs since March 2026, generating more than 1,800 attendances. The program is designed to address three specific priorities identified by female founders: a stronger sense of belonging, greater visibility for their businesses, and improved access to growth opportunities.
The initiative combines monthly networking and co-working sessions with practical learning modules. These sessions focus on the immediate challenges of scaling a business, including the implementation of artificial intelligence, marketing strategies, and securing funding. Beyond physical events, the program includes a digital Female Founders Community within the NatWest Accelerator app, which has grown to more than 1,900 members in less than six months.
Data from the pilot phase indicates a high level of engagement and impact. Feedback from 211 attendees across 10 hubs showed that 95.7% were satisfied or very satisfied with the program. Crucially, every surveyed participant reported feeling more confident or better equipped to build their business. Individual success stories from the pilot include Rosie Thurston, founder of EduCreate, who reported tripling her turnover after receiving one-to-one mentoring through the program. Other participants, such as Stacey Smith, founder of JAN, and Helen Evans, founder of Business Growth Support Services, utilized the network to transition from initial ideas to strategic business delivery and sales growth.
"She Scales was built around those needs. The response so far from more than 1,800 attendances to the rapid growth of the digital community shows the appetite for dedicated, year-round support. Taking the experience nationwide will give more women access to the confidence, visibility and connections they need to move their businesses forward."

The companies involved
NatWest is a major pillar of the UK banking sector, maintaining a dominant position in the SME and startup lending markets. The bank, which operates its primary digital presence at personal.natwest.com, has increasingly focused on its Accelerator program to provide non-financial support to high-growth businesses. FF News has tracked the bank’s activities extensively, with 207 stories detailing its technological shifts and strategic partnerships. The NatWest Accelerator operates as a specialized division within the bank, providing mentorship and physical hub spaces to entrepreneurs across the UK.
The She Scales initiative specifically targets the barriers faced by female-led businesses, which have historically received a disproportionately low share of venture capital and institutional support. By leveraging its regional hub network, NatWest is positioning itself as a facilitator of local economic ecosystems. The program’s expansion is overseen by leadership including Darren Pirie, Head of NatWest Group Accelerator & Strategic Partnerships at NatWest Group. The initiative also integrates with the bank's broader digital strategy, utilizing its proprietary app to maintain a 24/7 support network for founders and their allies.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely followed NatWest’s recent efforts to modernize its SME offering and support diverse business models. In September 2026, the bank demonstrated its focus on data-driven growth when NatWest Drives 23% Brand Lift Using Targeted Programmatic Video for SME Banking. This followed a landmark move in Wales, where Final Rentals Secures Wales' First NatWest IP-Backed Loan to Fuel AI Expansion, highlighting the bank's willingness to lend against intangible assets.
Additionally, the bank has been active in addressing sector-specific challenges through its sub-brands. In June 2026, Tyl by NatWest and KuulSeats Partner to Tackle £17.6bn Hospitality No-Show Crisis, showcasing a commitment to providing practical tools for small business owners in the hospitality industry. These reports reflect a consistent strategy of combining financial products with strategic business support.
What this means
The nationwide rollout of She Scales signals a shift in how major financial institutions approach the gender funding and support gap. By moving from a pilot phase to a permanent national identity, NatWest is acknowledging that transactional banking is no longer sufficient to retain high-growth SME clients in a competitive market. This move puts significant pressure on other "Big Four" UK banks to formalize their own diversity-focused support structures rather than relying on ad-hoc networking events. However, the heavy reliance on a digital community to supplement physical hubs raises questions about the long-term balance between automated support and high-touch mentorship. For the fintech sector, the focus on AI and scaling suggests that the next generation of female-led firms will be increasingly tech-heavy, potentially challenging the existing venture capital status quo.
