Coeus Institute Integrates Omni-53 with Model Context Protocol for Credit Union AI
By Lauren Towner · 16 October 2026

Coeus Institute has integrated the Model Context Protocol (MCP) into its Omni-53 analytics platform, allowing credit union executives to query specialized industry data through mainstream AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude. This bridge between general-purpose AI and structured regulatory filings addresses the critical lack of domain-specific financial intelligence in standard large language models.
What was announced
Coeus Institute’s Omni-53 platform now supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard designed to connect AI assistants to external data sources and tools. This integration allows users to leverage the conversational capabilities of tools like Microsoft Copilot or Claude while grounding their responses in verified credit union data. Previously, general-purpose AI lacked access to structured records like the NCUA 5300 Call Report filings, often leading to inaccurate or vague comparisons when asked about institutional performance.
The platform provides access to data from over 4,500 federally insured credit unions. Through MCP, an AI assistant can retrieve up to six years of quarterly trends, pull key financial ratios, and determine peer percentiles. It also enables ranking and comparison of institutions by asset size, state, or charter type, alongside reviewing annual HMDA mortgage lending summaries. For current subscribers, the tool can access saved watchlists and peer groups directly from their Omni-53 workspace.
While MCP support is currently in beta for Omni-53 Pro and Elite subscribers, the platform’s native AI agent, COAI, remains available for those who prefer to work within the Omni-53 environment. Crucially, the system operates using public NCUA and HMDA data, meaning it does not require a direct connection to a credit union’s core member systems or sensitive internal data to provide its analytical insights.
"Most AI assistants can write a good paragraph about credit unions. Very few can tell you, with the numbers to back it up, where your credit union stands against its peers this quarter,"
Michai Morin, CEO of Coeus Institute
The companies involved
Coeus Institute is the developer behind Omni-53, a platform specifically engineered to provide AI-driven analytics for the credit union sector. The firm focuses on bridging the gap between raw regulatory data and actionable strategic intelligence. The launch of Omni-53 in June was supported by a partnership with Mitchell Stankovic & Associates, a strategic consulting firm that has been a fixture in the credit union industry for decades.
Mitchell Stankovic & Associates, led by CEO Susan Mitchell, provides leadership consulting, CEO search services, and strategic planning for credit unions. The firm also operates the Credit Union Shared Services (CUSS) platform, which aims to bring advanced intelligence tools to institutions of all sizes. By partnering with Coeus, Mitchell Stankovic & Associates has positioned itself as a facilitator for digital transformation within the movement, helping smaller institutions access the same level of analytical depth as larger commercial banks. This collaboration emphasizes the industry's shift toward data-driven decision-making and the adoption of sophisticated AI tools to maintain competitiveness in a crowded financial services market.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely tracked the evolving landscape of the credit union sector, particularly as these institutions face increasing pressure to modernize their technology stacks. In a two-part series, we explored the shifting dynamics of the industry, notably in The Role of Credit Unions Today | Part 1 | Mambu's Banking Insights for Growth. This coverage highlighted how credit unions are balancing their community-focused missions with the need for digital agility.
The discussion continued in The Role of Credit Unions Today | Part 2 | Mambu's Banking Insights for Growth, which delved into the specific operational challenges and growth opportunities within the current economic climate. These reports underscore a broader trend where credit unions are seeking specialized fintech partnerships to bridge the gap between traditional member service and modern data analytics.
What this means
This move highlights a significant shift in how fintechs approach AI: moving away from proprietary "walled garden" assistants toward interoperability. By adopting the Model Context Protocol, Coeus is acknowledging that executives prefer to use the tools they already know, like ChatGPT, rather than switching between multiple niche platforms. This puts pressure on other specialized data providers to open their APIs to the broader AI ecosystem. For the credit union sector, it lowers the barrier to entry for sophisticated peer analysis, though it raises questions about how institutions will ensure data accuracy when general-purpose models interpret complex regulatory figures.
