FinTechSpace Bridges Taiwan and Japan with New Fukuoka-Taipei Innovation Corridor
By Lauren Towner · 16 October 2026

FinTechSpace has led a delegation of five Taiwanese fintech startups to Kyushu, Japan, to establish cross-border partnerships and pilot programs. For fintech professionals, this move signals a strategic bridge between Taiwan’s technological maturity and Japan’s regional banking sector, which is currently undergoing significant digital transformation to address aging demographics and operational efficiency.
What was announced
FinTechSpace, the innovation hub established under Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) and planned by the Taiwan Financial Services Roundtable (TFSR), facilitated the first participation of Taiwanese firms at the RAMEN TECH Global Summit in Fukuoka. The delegation, led by Kate Lin, Deputy Director of FinTechSpace, included five startups: CyCatena, HOYA BIT, IHH, TOPPAN Security, and TradingValley. These companies specialize in digital asset security, AI-driven anti-money laundering (AML), digital identity authentication, and smart wealth management.
The mission focused on overcoming market trust and distribution barriers through a matchmaking event co-hosted with Kyushu-based venture capital firm GxPartners and CDIB Capital Group. The delegation engaged with more than 19 regional banks and venture capital firms across Japan, including Mizuho Bank and Nishi-Nippon City Bank. In total, the startups held over 50 business meetings aimed at securing future proofs of concept (PoC) and institutional validation.
A key component of the trip was the "All-Japan Regional Banks and Regional Bank VC Startup Support Matchmaking Session," hosted by FFG Venture Business Partners, a subsidiary of Fukuoka Financial Group. This session connected Taiwanese innovators with regional banks that maintain deep ties to local Japanese enterprises and governments, providing a unique environment for real-world technology validation. Additionally, TOPPAN Security was invited to present its international track record in financial cybersecurity during the "Cross-border Open Innovation Day."
The companies involved
FinTechSpace serves as Taiwan’s primary fintech innovation hub, operating under the guidance of the country’s Financial Supervisory Commission. It acts as a central point for regulatory technology, incubation, and international expansion for the Taiwanese ecosystem. CDIB Capital Group is a prominent investment firm that focuses on private equity and venture capital, providing the financial backing and strategic network necessary for startups to scale across Asian markets.
GxPartners is a venture capital firm based in Kyushu, Japan, specializing in supporting early-stage startups and fostering open innovation between emerging tech companies and established Japanese corporations. Fukuoka Financial Group (FFG), through its subsidiary FFG Venture Business Partners, represents a significant force in the Japanese regional banking landscape. These regional banks are increasingly vital to the Japanese economy as they pivot toward digital transformation (DX) to maintain service levels in a changing demographic environment. The collaboration between these entities highlights a growing corridor for fintech exchange between Taipei and Fukuoka, leveraging Kyushu’s position as a gateway to the broader Japanese financial market.
What this means
This initiative highlights the increasing pressure on Japan’s regional banks to modernize. As these institutions face the dual challenges of a shrinking workforce and a need for digital-first services, they are looking beyond domestic borders for proven solutions. For Taiwanese startups, the hurdle has always been the high barrier to entry in the Japanese market, where trust and local relationships are paramount. By utilizing institutional intermediaries like FinTechSpace and FFG, these startups are bypassing traditional gatekeepers. This move suggests that the next wave of fintech growth in North Asia will likely be driven by cross-border PoCs rather than simple retail expansion.
