European crypto asset service providers (CASPs) can now automate their MiCA-mandated safeguarding requirements through a new channel partnership between Fiat Republic and ClearBank. This integration is critical for fintech professionals navigating the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, as it eliminates the operational burden of manual daily fund sweeps between transactional and safeguarding accounts.

What was announced

Fiat Republic, a regulated B2B fiat infrastructure provider for the crypto sector, has entered into a channel partnership with ClearBank to provide integrated safeguarding accounts. The solution is specifically designed for digital asset companies that must comply with MiCA regulations, which require client funds to be held at a licensed credit institution, segregated from the firm’s own operational capital.

Previously, platforms using Fiat Republic for transactional banking and virtual account reconciliation faced a significant logistical hurdle. To remain compliant, they were often forced to manually transfer client funds to an external bank every evening and pull them back the following morning. This partnership removes that friction by allowing clients to access ClearBank-backed safeguarding accounts directly within the Fiat Republic environment.

ClearBank, which is authorised by the European Central Bank and supervised by De Nederlandsche Bank, provides the underlying regulated credit institution infrastructure. Under the channel partner model, CASPs maintain their existing technical and legal relationship with Fiat Republic while gaining the regulatory benefits of ClearBank’s balance sheet. The service is available immediately to companies that either hold a MiCA licence or are currently in the application process, provided they meet eligibility criteria. This integration follows the earlier launch of Fiat Republic as the first live client on ClearBank’s SEPA Indirect product, which provided French clients with virtual IBANs and euro payments.

"MiCA created a compliance requirement that was forcing our clients to maintain two separate banking relationships just to keep operating. That's unnecessary friction in an already complex regulatory environment. This partnership with ClearBank means our clients can meet their safeguarding obligations through the same infrastructure they already use for transactional banking - and focus on growing their business instead of managing cash movements overnight."

The companies involved

Fiat Republic operates as a regulated B2B fiat-to-crypto bridge, providing the banking rails and compliance tools necessary for digital asset platforms to interact with traditional financial systems. The company focuses on reducing the "de-banking" risks often faced by the crypto sector by providing a dedicated infrastructure layer.

ClearBank is a cloud-native enabler of real-time clearing and embedded banking services. In the United Kingdom, it is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by both the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. Its European arm, ClearBank Europe, is headquartered in the Netherlands and falls under the supervision of De Nederlandsche Bank and the European Central Bank. Unlike traditional investment banks, ClearBank does not engage in wholesale lending, focusing instead on providing clearing and custody services to other financial institutions and fintechs. The firm has established a significant presence in the London fintech ecosystem, recently relocating to a new headquarters as its deposit base grew to £18 billion.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely tracked the deepening relationship between these two entities. In May 2026, we reported that ClearBank Enables Faster Euro Payments as Fiat Republic Becomes the First Live Client on SEPA Indirect, a move that gave Fiat Republic's clients in France access to their own BICs. ClearBank’s broader expansion has also been a focus, including when ClearBank Moves Into New London HQ as It Reaches £18bn in Deposits Held earlier this year. Furthermore, we have covered ClearBank’s role as a foundational utility for other firms, such as when Bloomsbury Money Integrates ClearBank to Enhance Global Payment Infrastructure in July 2026.

What this means

This partnership signals a shift in the European crypto landscape where regulatory compliance is moving from a manual "bolt-on" process to an automated, embedded feature. By solving the "overnight sweep" problem, Fiat Republic and ClearBank are addressing a specific operational pain point that has plagued CASPs since the introduction of MiCA. This puts pressure on traditional Tier-1 banks that have historically been hesitant to provide sophisticated, integrated safeguarding for crypto firms. The industry is moving toward a model where the distinction between a "crypto bank" and a "traditional bank" is blurred by the underlying infrastructure, raising questions about whether standalone safeguarding providers can survive without offering integrated transactional capabilities.
