Banco Azteca Scales Automation to 8,800 Processes with UiPath Maestro Orchestration
26 August 2026

Banco Azteca has successfully scaled its automation program to cover more than 8,800 enterprise processes, leveraging UiPath Maestro to orchestrate complex workflows across its Mexican operations. For fintech leaders, this move signals a shift from simple task automation to full-scale business orchestration, effectively adding the capacity of 3,300 full-time employees through digital labor.
What was announced
Banco Azteca, one of the largest financial institutions in Mexico, has transitioned its automation strategy from individual task execution to a comprehensive business orchestration model. Utilizing UiPath Maestro, the bank now manages over 300 production automations that coordinate interactions between human employees, AI agents, internal systems, and third-party partners. This governed operating model spans critical functions including compliance, fraud prevention, legal, procurement, HR, and customer service.
The implementation has allowed the bank to scale to more than 8,800 automated processes. A primary application of this technology is found within the post-sales operations for elektra.mx, the e-commerce platform of the bank’s parent company, Group Elektra. The orchestrated workflow manages the end-to-end lifecycle of cancellations and delivery requests, including autonomous communication with third-party sellers. The system monitors responses and prioritizes cases, only involving human staff when specific judgment is required. This shift has significantly reduced manual burdens and accelerated customer resolution times.
The program is managed by an internal AI and RPA Center of Excellence, established in 2020, which consists of more than 20 developers, business analysts, and data scientists. Following this deployment, the bank intends to apply this orchestrated framework to anti-money laundering (AML) initiatives and intelligent ATM monitoring to optimize cash distribution based on real-time customer demand.
"As our automation program matured, we realized the next opportunity wasn’t automating more tasks. Instead, our focus moved to coordinating entire business processes. Business orchestration allows us to connect people, AI, systems, and partners so work keeps moving while our teams stay focused on higher-value decisions,"
Manuel Delgado, Chief Operating Officer & Head of Customer Service, Banco Azteca.

What FF News has reported before
FF News has previously tracked the evolution of UiPath’s capabilities within the financial sector, notably in the report UiPath Acquires WorkFusion, Strengthening Agentic Solutions for Financial Services. This acquisition was a pivotal moment in the company's strategy to move beyond simple RPA into more sophisticated, AI-driven "agentic" solutions that Banco Azteca is now deploying at scale. While our coverage often touches on the broader Latin American fintech ecosystem, such as Zapp Expands WhatsApp Remittance Service to Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, the scale of Banco Azteca’s internal automation program represents one of the most mature implementations of orchestration technology in the region to date.
What this means
This announcement moves the needle by demonstrating that "agentic" AI is no longer a pilot-phase curiosity but a production-grade reality for Tier-1 banks. By automating the equivalent of 3,300 full-time roles, Banco Azteca is setting a high bar for operational efficiency that puts immediate pressure on regional competitors still struggling with fragmented, manual back-office legacy systems. The industry must now grapple with the governance of "AI agents" that interact with third parties autonomously. The shift from task-based RPA to process orchestration raises critical questions for the sector regarding the future of middle-management roles and the speed at which regulatory compliance can keep pace with automated decision-making in sensitive areas like AML and fraud prevention.
