Dext has strengthened its UK leadership team with the appointment of Sendi Young as UK & Ireland General Manager and Sam Wood as Product Domain Expert. As the industry navigates the post-April 2026 Making Tax Digital landscape, these hires signal a strategic focus on bridging the gap between government tax policy and automated bookkeeping technology.

What was announced

Sendi Young has been appointed to lead Dext’s UK & Ireland business through its next phase of commercial growth. Her remit includes increasing the adoption of the company’s newer capabilities, specifically Payments and AI Assist, while scaling the commercial organisation across the region. Young brings approximately 20 years of experience in financial technology and payments, having previously served as Interim Chief Commercial Officer at Modulr and Managing Director for UK & Europe at Ripple. Her career also includes five years at Mastercard and a current position as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Fnality UK.

Sam Wood joins the team as Product Domain Expert, moving directly from a nearly seven-year tenure at HMRC. During his time with the government, Wood was instrumental in the Making Tax Digital (MTD) programme, specifically leading taxpayer readiness for the MTD for Income Tax go-live in April 2026. This mandate required millions of sole traders and landlords to transition to digital record-keeping and quarterly reporting. An ICAEW-qualified accountant, Wood previously served as Innovations Director at Blu Sky Chartered Accountants, where he managed the rollout of cloud accounting tools. At Dext, he will focus on the long-term transition toward real-time tax systems and e-invoicing, acting as a bridge between the software developer and the regulatory environment.

"AI, MTD for Income Tax and e-invoicing are changing what UK accountants, bookkeepers and businesses need from their software. But our focus stays the same: keeping people in control while AI takes on the repetitive admin, giving them time back to spend on higher-value work. That's exactly why we've brought Sendi and Sam onto the team. Sendi brings two decades of experience building and scaling commercial organisations across payments and fintech, from Mastercard to Ripple and Modulr. Sam has helped shape Making Tax Digital from inside the Government, and he's used Dext himself as a practising accountant."

The companies involved

Dext operates as a specialist in the bookkeeping automation sector, positioning itself as a central link in the capture-to-pay workflow for accounting and bookkeeping practices. The company’s platform is designed to automate the extraction of data from receipts, invoices, and other financial documents, reducing the manual administrative burden on finance professionals. By integrating AI-driven tools, the firm aims to provide real-time visibility into financial data, which has become increasingly critical as tax authorities move toward digital-first mandates.

Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Sabby Gill, the company has expanded its scope beyond simple data capture to include broader payment solutions and automated decision-making tools. The firm serves a global market but maintains a significant footprint in the UK and Ireland, where it supports a large ecosystem of small-to-medium-sized businesses through their external accounting partners. As a key player in the fintech space, Dext competes by offering deep integrations with major accounting software providers, ensuring that the transition from physical document to digital record is seamless for both the business owner and the tax agent.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked Dext’s rapid expansion throughout 2026, particularly its move into integrated financial services. In February, the company launched Dext Launches Payments Bringing Supplier Invoice, Expense and Payroll Payments Into One Trusted Platform, followed shortly by the introduction of Dext Launches AI Assist to Automate Everyday Bookkeeping Decisions in March. By July, the company reached a significant milestone, as Dext Payments Expands to QuickBooks Online Following £6m Processing Milestone. However, the transition to digital tax reporting has not been without friction. In August, Dext Data Reveals 65% of Accountants Missed First MTD for Income Tax Deadline, highlighting the significant compliance hurdles facing the UK market following the April 2026 mandate.

What this means

The recruitment of a high-level HMRC official alongside a seasoned fintech commercial leader suggests that the "compliance gap" is the next major battleground in UK fintech. While the technology for digital record-keeping exists, the high failure rate for initial MTD deadlines indicates that the industry is struggling with the practicalities of real-time reporting. Software providers are now under intense pressure to move beyond simple data extraction and become active compliance partners. This shift places traditional accounting firms in a difficult position; they must either embrace deep automation or risk being overwhelmed by the increased frequency of government reporting requirements. The focus on e-invoicing further suggests that the UK is moving toward a more rigid, transactional tax infrastructure.
