Allied Universal has appointed Instant Financial as its fully integrated earned wage access partner, providing 320,000 hourly employees in the United States with immediate access to their pay. For fintech professionals, this massive deployment demonstrates the increasing necessity of real-time liquidity tools for high-volume workforces and the growing integration of financial wellness services into corporate onboarding.

What was announced

Allied Universal transitioned its earned wage access (EWA) program to Instant earlier this year, seeking a solution that could scale across its vast workforce while maintaining robust fraud mitigation and compliance across all 50 states. The program is specifically designed for the company’s 320,000 hourly workers, allowing them to access wages immediately upon completing a shift. Since the transition, tens of thousands of employees have already activated their accounts.

The integration is embedded directly into Allied Universal’s employee portal, allowing new hires to select the service during their initial onboarding process. Workers are offered several flexible disbursement options: they can receive funds via a fee-free Instant prepaid debit card, use a fee-free ACH transfer to an existing bank account, or opt for an immediate bank transfer for a fee. To support digital-first usage, employees are assigned virtual cards, with the option to request physical versions.

Beyond the core payment functionality, the partnership includes access to Instant’s Financial Wellness program. This suite provides credit building tools, health and wellness services, and educational resources. This rollout marks Instant Financial’s first major expansion into the security services industry, having previously established its presence in the restaurant, hospitality, and retail sectors.

"Earned wage access is about much more than giving employees access to their money before payday. At this scale, the experience must work for employees and the people administering the program. Allied Universal wanted a partner that could deliver strong customer support, fraud mitigation and compliance across all 50 states, while also building an experience around how its employees actually engage with the company. That’s exactly what we’ve built together."

The companies involved

Allied Universal is a global leader in security and facility services. As one of the largest employers in the United States, the company maintains a massive frontline workforce that provides security solutions across various industries. Its scale requires specialized administrative support and compliance frameworks that can handle high-volume payroll operations across multiple jurisdictions.

Instant Financial is a fintech firm focused on modernizing payments and earned wage access for hourly workers and their employers. The company provides a range of digital payment solutions, including digital tips, a tips calculator, and instant payments via banks, mobile wallets, or paycards. Instant was the first company to offer earned wage access through a paycard and has built a significant track record in the frontline sector. To date, the company has helped workers in industries such as retail and hospitality access over $8 billion in earnings and $5 billion in tips. By combining payment technology with financial wellness services, Instant positions itself as a tool for employee retention and financial control, particularly for unbanked or underbanked workers who may lack access to traditional financial institutions.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has previously covered Instant Financial’s expansion of its digital payment ecosystem. In August 2025, the publication reported that Instant Financial Launches Virtual Paycards, Offering Employers and Frontline Workers a 100% Digital, On-Demand Pay Solution, a move that laid the groundwork for the digital-first onboarding seen in the Allied Universal partnership. Additionally, the company has sought to broaden the utility of its platform for hourly workers. FF News also covered how Instant Financial Partners with Insurify to Slash Auto Insurance Costs for Hourly Workers, highlighting the company’s strategy of integrating third-party financial services into its core wage access platform to provide a more comprehensive financial wellness suite.

What this means

This partnership signals a maturing of the earned wage access market, moving from a niche perk to a core operational requirement for the world’s largest employers. By integrating EWA directly into the onboarding process, Allied Universal is treating real-time pay as a standard feature of employment rather than an emergency intervention. This puts significant pressure on traditional payroll providers and legacy banks that still rely on the two-week pay cycle. The move into the security services sector also suggests that the "gig-ification" of pay is successfully jumping from hospitality into more regulated, corporate environments. The industry must now address whether these fee-based immediate transfers will eventually face stricter regulatory scrutiny as they become ubiquitous.
