Braid Secures $38m Series A to Revolutionize Embedded Mobile Connectivity for Global Enterprises
By Effie Foxtrot · 30 October 2026

Braid has secured $38 million in Series A funding to scale its API-driven mobile connectivity platform, which allows enterprises to embed branded cellular services into their products. By bypassing traditional multi-month carrier negotiations, the company enables businesses to launch global mobile offerings in days, transforming connectivity from a backend cost into a customer engagement tool.
What was announced
Braid’s $38 million Series A round was led by Octopus Ventures, with participation from KPN Ventures, the strategic investment arm of the Dutch telecommunications operator KPN. Since its launch in 2023, the company has operated without external capital and remains profitable and cash-flow positive today. The platform is designed to eliminate the friction typically associated with becoming a connectivity provider, such as long-term carrier negotiations and complex regulatory filings that often take three to six months. Instead, Braid provides a single API that orchestrates more than 600 carriers across 200 countries.
This infrastructure allows enterprises to integrate SIM and eSIM connectivity directly into their existing products via an API or SDK. Alternatively, businesses can deploy a fully branded storefront with no engineering required. The platform reduces the time to launch a brand-led mobile service to as little as one week, with live trials possible in three minutes. By removing the need for companies to become licensed telecoms operators themselves, Braid positions connectivity as an embedded feature that can drive customer loyalty and create new revenue streams rather than a simple one-off purchase.
"I spent 18 months and half a million euros just to sell my first SIM card, and that is why Braid exists. After seven years running a mobile virtual network, I realised we weren’t really selling SIM cards. We had built the infrastructure that makes connectivity accessible to everyone. Amazon built AWS to power its own business and found it could power everyone else’s, and it was the same for us. Today a business can start in three minutes. And when brands make connectivity part of their customer experience, they unlock something far more valuable: stronger relationships, greater loyalty and new revenue."

The companies involved
Braid, which operates the domain braid.co, provides the technical layer necessary for non-telecom businesses to offer mobile services. The company’s partner for global reach is KPN, a major Dutch telecommunications provider. KPN Wholesale supports Braid’s footprint, providing the reliability and network access required for a global rollout across hundreds of networks. Lead investor Octopus Ventures is part of the Octopus Group, a major investment firm. Octopus Ventures focuses on high-growth technology and fintech companies, often supporting businesses that simplify complex legacy infrastructures. KPN Ventures, which also participated in the round, serves as the strategic investment vehicle for KPN, focusing on startups that align with the operator's broader digital and connectivity goals. The involvement of both a major venture capital firm and a strategic telecom partner underscores Braid’s position as a bridge between traditional network infrastructure and modern, API-first enterprise needs.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has previously tracked the activity of Braid’s lead investors and namesake platforms. In the fintech space, Octopus Ventures has been active in several significant rounds, including when Swiipr Raises £6m in Series A Funding Led by Octopus Ventures to transform airline compensation. The firm also participated in a major capital injection when British Fintech Abound Raises £500m to Turbocharge Growth of Affordable Loans. Additionally, the Braid name has appeared in the context of enterprise data transformation, such as when BBH Launches Braid: An AI-Native Platform for Financial Data Transformation.
What this means
This announcement signals the "AWS-ification" of the telecommunications sector. By abstracting the complexity of carrier negotiations and regulatory compliance into a single API, Braid is moving connectivity from a utility to a software feature. This puts significant pressure on traditional Mobile Virtual Network Enablers (MVNEs) and legacy telcos whose business models rely on the very friction Braid is removing. The real test for the industry will be whether "branded connectivity" becomes a standard part of the fintech and enterprise stack or remains a niche loyalty play. If Braid succeeds in making connectivity a default infrastructure layer, the traditional barrier between "tech company" and "telecoms provider" will effectively vanish.
