The 27th NextGen Payments & RegTech Forum will convene in Limassol, Cyprus, on 19 November 2026 to address the evolving European regulatory landscape. For fintech professionals, the summit provides a critical look at the implementation of MiCA, DORA, and the EU AML package, alongside the practical application of agentic AI in payment rails and fraud prevention.

What was announced

The forum is scheduled for 19 November 2026 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Limassol. It serves as a major hub for the Eastern Mediterranean financial sector, targeting senior executives from banks, Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs), Payment Service Providers (PSPs), and regulatory technology firms. The event expects an attendance of over 250 senior leaders and regulators.

The agenda is heavily weighted toward the legislative shifts currently reshaping European finance. Key sessions will cover the transition to the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), and the NIS2 Directive. Additionally, the forum will explore the EU AML package’s specific impact on firms based in Cyprus, as well as the technicalities of PSD3 and the Payment Services Regulation (PSR). Discussions will also delve into the future of stablecoins and tokenized money within the European settlement landscape.

More than 50 industry specialists are slated to speak, representing global and regional organizations including Revolut, Mastercard, IBM, FIS, eToro, Eurobank, and the National Bank of Greece CY. Specific technological discussions will focus on agentic AI in payments, the evolution of cross-border remittances, and operational resilience. The event aims to provide actionable insights into how these technologies and regulatory frameworks will influence financial services across Europe.

The companies involved

The forum is organized by QUBE Events, a specialist in high-level financial services summits. QUBE Events has established a significant presence in the Mediterranean and European markets, frequently hosting gatherings that bridge the gap between traditional banking and the emerging fintech sector. The speaker roster includes a diverse range of leadership from the region’s most prominent institutions.

Representing the banking sector are George Apostolides, Head of Compliance at Eurobank Ltd, and Savvas Panayiotou, Chief Information Security Officer at National Bank of Greece (Cyprus). From the fintech and digital asset space, Sophia Nearchou, Senior Associate, Head of Compliance at Revolut, and Menicos Mavrommatis, Technology Lead Cyprus & Malta at IBM, will provide technical and regulatory perspectives. Other notable participants include Elena Kontou, CEO at Sepaga EMI, and Bruno Carneiro Leão, Chief Regulatory Officer at payabl. The involvement of these firms highlights the forum's role in connecting established financial giants with the agile EMIs and PSPs that define the modern Cypriot and European financial ecosystems.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked the expansion of this forum series across multiple jurisdictions. Most recently, we covered the 26th NextGen Payments & RegTech Forum Arrives in Austin, Texas, which took place in October 2026. The series has a strong history in Cyprus, as seen in our report on The 3rd ICPAC Mediterranean Finance Summit 2024 and The Vision Forex Forum, both held in Limassol. Additionally, we reported on the broader European focus during The 3rd Financial Innovation Forum - Payments & RegTech in London, which addressed similar themes of regulatory convergence and payment innovation.

What this means

This forum highlights the growing pressure on Mediterranean financial hubs to align with the EU’s aggressive regulatory timeline. As MiCA and DORA move from theoretical frameworks to operational requirements, the industry faces a steep compliance curve that could squeeze smaller EMIs while favoring larger players with deeper AI and legal budgets. The focus on agentic AI suggests a shift from passive fraud detection to autonomous systems, raising questions about liability and oversight. For Cyprus specifically, the challenge lies in maintaining its status as a fintech-friendly jurisdiction while strictly adhering to the new EU AML package, a balancing act that will define the region's competitive edge in the coming years.
