DataSnipper has launched Alwin, an agentic automation platform designed to handle end-to-end audit and finance procedures autonomously. For fintech professionals, this marks a significant shift from task-level automation to full-scale procedural agents that maintain a verifiable audit trail, potentially solving the chronic bottleneck of manual data extraction and verification in highly regulated environments.

What was announced

The Amsterdam-based firm introduced Alwin to transition audit work from manual Excel-based tasks to autonomous, multi-step workflows. Unlike traditional automation that handles isolated actions, Alwin is built to execute complete procedures including evidence collection, verification, and reporting. It processes hundreds of documents from various data sources and systems of record, returning completed workpapers for human review.

A core component of the platform is agentic automation, where agents run in the cloud and operate across hundreds of files simultaneously. To maintain the defensibility required in audit, every output is linked to a "Snip" in the source data. This ensures that every conclusion can be traced back to its origin, with a full log of both agent and human modifications. This level of transparency is designed to support review gates and checkpoints throughout the execution of work.

Early implementations show significant efficiency gains across different geographies and audit types. CROP Accountants & Advisers reported that a cash-testing workflow was approximately 80% faster, reducing hours of manual labor to minutes of agent run time. At Rehmann, the platform is being used to test revenue transactions and inventory costs, while BDO Czech Republic has developed dozens of agents to test evidence across various audit procedures. The platform also includes a governed library, allowing teams to create and share agents with specific controls over who can access, run, and publish them.

"For years, we've worked alongside audit and finance teams to automate the manual work," said Vidya Peters, CEO at DataSnipper. "Alwin is the next step: agents can now take on complete procedures, not just individual tasks, while the professional stays in control of the work that requires judgment. The future isn't autonomous audit. It's giving professionals the capacity to do more of the work they trained for, without asking them to give up the evidence, oversight, and accountability their work demands."

The companies involved

DataSnipper is an Amsterdam-based technology provider specializing in agentic automation for the audit and finance sectors. The company was founded following a conversation nearly a decade ago involving an auditor named Alwin, who sought to eliminate the repetitive manual tasks that dominated his professional life. Today, the firm provides tools that integrate with systems of record to automate data extraction while maintaining a direct link—referred to as a "Snip"—between digital outputs and original source evidence.

The broader fintech ecosystem surrounding such automation includes major investment players like Index Ventures, a firm with a significant footprint in the global venture capital space and a frequent subject of FF News coverage. The launch of the Alwin platform also involves several professional services firms that have acted as design partners. BDO Czech Republic has utilized the platform to develop internal audit agents that run in parallel in the cloud. CROP Accountants & Advisers has used the system to automate cash-testing procedures, while FGMK and Rehmann have applied the agents to general ledger extraction and revenue transaction testing. These organizations represent a cross-section of the accounting and advisory market, from internal audit methodology specialists to assurance partners.

What this means

The move toward agentic automation in audit signals a shift in how professional services firms handle the massive volume of documentation required for compliance. By automating complete procedures rather than just individual data points, the industry is moving toward a model where human intervention is reserved for high-level judgment and risk assessment. This puts significant pressure on traditional manual processes and legacy software that cannot provide the same level of cloud-based, parallel processing. The success of this transition will likely depend on how well these autonomous agents can maintain the rigorous transparency and traceability that regulators demand, potentially reshaping the career path for junior auditors by reducing the time spent on manual data extraction.
