Context Engineering and the Modernization of Banking Data Architecture
At the Banking Transformation Summit event, the foundational challenge of data readiness took center stage as a primary barrier to successful artificial intelligence adoption. Barry Lloyd, Vice President – EMEA at Impetus, joined the discussion to outline how the company supports financial institutions at the very beginning of their modernization journeys. According to Lloyd, the vast majority of financial service organizations currently struggle because they do not have sufficient context embedded within their data. This lack of context creates a severe bottleneck when institutions attempt to build advanced, agentic solutions. Without an inherently understood data structure, AI agents cannot comprehend the underlying information they are tasked with processing. Impetus addresses this critical gap by transforming disparate corporate data sources into a modernized architecture and applying context engineering directly on top of it, establishing a reliable foundation that ensures AI and agentic projects can function effectively.
To enable banks to achieve this transformation efficiently, Impetus utilizes its core technology platform, known as Leap or LeapLogic. This specialized platform connects directly to an institution’s underlying data sources, acting as an intelligent, agentic solution itself that inherently understands complex, legacy data structures. LeapLogic automates the intricate process of migrating a bank’s data assets away from traditional models—many of which have been trapped in regular, legacy databases for 20 to 30 years—and transitions them into a highly modern, medallion-based architecture within cloud-data environments like Databricks or Snowflake.
By automating these migration and structuring steps, Impetus eliminates the need for manual, slow-moving data engineering processes. Relying on manual engineering to rebuild decades of data models is incredibly time-consuming and error-prone; however, LeapLogic executes this end-to-end transition in typically two to three times less time than traditional “hand-cranking” methods. This dramatic acceleration allows banks to bypass the standard operational friction of legacy data migration. Ultimately, by providing rapid automation and robust context engineering, Impetus helps financial institutions establish the clean, comprehensive data foundation required to deploy powerful enterprise AI and accelerate their overarching banking transformation.
