Press Release: What Clients Want Most: Euroclear on Collateral Mobility | Featured Image by FF News

Quick Summary

Asked what clients have been asking for that they never asked before, Isabelle Delorme, Global Head of Product Strategy & Innovation at Euroclear, gives a short answer: mobility of assets and mobility of collateral. It is the top of mind use case in client conversations, and the ability to mobilise assets as collateral across more of the week is, she says, tangible and measurable progress.

What are clients asking Euroclear for that is new?

Delorme calls it the easy answer and the short answer. What comes across as the key expectation and the most important demand is the mobility of assets and mobility of collateral.

It is, in her words, the top of mind use case in Euroclear's client conversations, and it comes first on the list.

Why is collateral mobility at the top of the list?

Delorme links the demand to the possibility of mobilising assets as collateral far closer to around the clock. She describes it as, if not 24/7 tomorrow, then an extended window across the week with only a short period of downtime.

For clients that manage collateral and liquidity, being able to move assets when they need to, rather than within traditional operating hours, changes how efficiently they can use what they already hold.

How do clients measure the progress?

Delorme is clear that this is not a theoretical benefit. She calls it a key progress, and one that is tangible and measurable for our clients, no doubt.

That is what puts collateral mobility at the front of the queue: clients can see and quantify the difference it makes, which is not always true of new technology in capital markets.

FF NEWS TAKE:

Short answer, big signal. When clients stop asking about technology and start asking about collateral mobility, the conversation has moved from innovation to outcomes. Collateral is where liquidity gets trapped, so extending the window in which assets can be mobilised is one of the few digital asset benefits a treasurer can put a number on. It also explains why Delorme ties tokenisation so closely to liquidity efficiency elsewhere in this interview.
