About Taavi Tamkivi

Taavi Tamkivi has been part of the Estonian startup sector for the last 20 years. As a maths nerd, using the power of data, he makes the world a better place for people around. Working with several Unicorns, he has gathered evidence that highly skilled people with a great mission can change the whole world - no matter where they are or how large their company is. In his experience, it’s completely true in the technology sector: 'Not the Big That Eat the Small...It's the Fast That Eat the Slow.' After years of building AML, Fraud, and KYC products and teams in Wise and Skype, Taavi Tamkivi decided to put his experience into a higher scale and founded Salv in order to help thousands of financial institutions and tens of thousands of crime fighters around the world to beat financial crime. People tend to get surprised that in his home, he’s got 7 saunas. He’s never sure what’s so surprising there - as a passionate wilderness runner, he gets wet, muddy, snowy, sweaty, and tired often, and his saunas are great places to recover! He’s happy to connect with fellow AML and fincrime enthusiasts and people interested in utilizing technology to collaborate and beat financial crime. In addition to sharing his experience and Salv’s products in the crime-fighting space, he’s always enjoying talks about growing startups, high-risk investments, complex maths, marathon-running, and other similar fairly complicated topics. Taavi Tamkivi brings experience from previous roles at FinanceEstonia and Bigbank. Taavi holds a 2007 - 2016 Unfinished PhD program in Data science / Machine Learning / Probability theory @ University of Tartu.
