Prometeo Launches Name Match to Strengthen Account Verification

Prometeo, a leading fintech infrastructure provider for the Americas, today launched Name Match, a new capability within its U.S. Bank Account Verification API that helps businesses evaluate likely bank-account ownership before initiating payments.

Name Match adds a layer of precision to Prometeo’s verification flow by comparing a beneficiary’s name with the official name on the account using trusted banking-network data sources. The feature returns an indicative outcome – Match, Partial Match, No Match or No Data – that institutions can incorporate into risk and payment-decision flows.

“Verifying that an account exists is no longer enough, in the U.S., Nacha (National Automated Clearing House Association) encourages account validation and pre-payment checks. Name Match supports those efforts by adding an ownership-evaluation step ahead of settlement.”
said Ximena Aleman, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Prometeo. “Financial institutions also need confidence in who likely owns the account. Name Match brings that clarity without adding friction for high-volume payment operations.”

The capability helps reduce misdirected payments and fraud, lower costs tied to ACH (Automated Clearing House) returns and rejected transfers, and support compliance with U.S. best practices such as Nacha’s pre-validation guidelines. With 79% of organizations facing payment-fraud attempts in 2024 and ACH volumes reaching $23.2 trillion in Q3 2025, demand for stronger pre-payment controls continues to grow.

Companies can use Name Match to automate workflows—proceeding on clear matches, routing partial matches for review, or blocking payouts when no match is detected. The feature operates in real time and asynchronous coverage via U.S. payment rails, returning ownership-evaluation outcomes in under 5 seconds for real-time rails.

Traditional login-based verification tools require each user to open a third-party interface, select their bank, and log in, fine for a single person linking their own account, but unworkable when thousands of accounts must be checked in batch. Prometeo’s Bank Account Verification API with Name Match helps remove that friction: clients send routing and account numbers plus an expected beneficiary name via API, and Prometeo helps evaluate likely ownership through its connection to U.S. payment rails.

“Enterprises need infrastructure that works behind the scenes at scale,” said Rodrigo Tumaian, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Prometeo. “Name Match helps them verify thousands of accounts without requiring interactive login steps or disrupting operations.”

Prometeo introduced its U.S. Bank Account Verification API in 2024, giving businesses a single integration to validate accounts across the U.S. and Latin America and reach 100% of U.S. banks. With Name Match, Prometeo deepens its infrastructure for ownership-aware payments, supporting large-scale payout, onboarding and treasury operations across the Americas.
