Prometeo has expanded its account verification coverage to over 110 countries and launched a new Risk Intelligence tool to combat fraud in cross-border payments. For fintechs and banks, this shift from simple validation to deep counterparty analysis is critical as AI-driven transactions and global money movement demand higher levels of regulatory and reputational certainty.

What was announced

The update, branded as Account Verification Boost, introduces three core components: expanded global reach, a new Risk Intelligence endpoint, and an upgraded validation engine. The expansion now covers five continents, allowing banks, payment providers, remittance companies, and treasury teams to use a single API for consistent validation logic across diverse international markets. This infrastructure is designed to serve both traditional financial institutions and emerging AI agents that require automated transactional certainty.

The Risk Intelligence product provides structured data on company identity, legal status, and ownership. It surfaces sanctions, regulatory signals, and adverse media reports by aggregating information from tax records, corporate registries, and watchlists. Currently live in Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Chile, the service is scheduled to expand its coverage to include Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and the United States. This tool is available as a standalone solution for due diligence or as an add-on to the existing verification suite.

Account Verification V2 serves as the technical backbone for high-volume onboarding and payout workflows. It features configurable workflows, request traceability, and smart routing, which automatically redirects requests to alternative data sources if a primary provider is unavailable. This version supports both synchronous and asynchronous operations, allowing users to verify account-holder names, IDs, and currencies. By assigning a unique ID and standardized response to every request, the platform aims to simplify exception management for engineering and operations teams handling complex global transactions.

"Companies operating across borders need more than a basic yes-or-no account check. They need to know that an account is valid, that it belongs to the intended holder and, increasingly, that the company or person behind it is appropriate to engage with. That’s the shift we’re building, not just connecting businesses to the rails, but giving them operational certainty over every transaction that runs through them. With this launch, Prometeo goes deeper, wider and further; strengthening the validation layer itself, extending coverage around the world and adding intelligence about the counterparty behind the account."

The companies involved

Prometeo is a financial infrastructure provider specializing in account verification and cross-border money movement. The company positions itself as an infrastructure layer that provides transactional certainty, connecting businesses to more than 7,500 financial institutions globally. Its platform is built to be AI-native, catering to the needs of modern financial entities including marketplaces, foreign exchange companies, and corporate treasury departments.

The company maintains significant industry relationships, working alongside major global institutions such as SWIFT, Citi, and JPMorgan. Prometeo’s focus on the "trust layer" of payments places it at the intersection of open banking and regulatory compliance. By structuring data from tax records and corporate registries, the firm provides the technical plumbing necessary for businesses to navigate the complexities of international banking standards. Under the leadership of Co-Founder and Co-CEO Ximena Alemán, the firm has established a strong presence in the Latin American market while scaling its reach to include North America and Europe, providing the tools required for dynamic Know Your Business (KYB) workflows and high-volume payment processing.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed Prometeo’s growth as a key player in the global infrastructure space. In 2026, the company was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur, joining the network to scale its global transaction certainty tools and infrastructure. This followed a significant regulatory milestone when Nacha announced Prometeo as a Preferred Partner for account validation and open banking, highlighting its importance in the U.S. payments ecosystem. Additionally, the firm has been active in industry advocacy, becoming a member of FDATA to support open finance standards. Earlier efforts to refine its core technology included the launch of Name Match, a feature specifically designed to enhance the accuracy of its account verification services.

What this means

This move signals a maturing of the account verification market, moving away from simple connectivity toward sophisticated risk orchestration. As cross-border volumes rise and fraud techniques become more advanced, the "yes/no" validation model is becoming insufficient for compliance-heavy environments. Prometeo’s integration of reputational and regulatory data directly into the payment flow puts pressure on traditional KYC providers who often operate in silos away from the actual transaction rails. The industry is clearly moving toward a model where identity and payment are inseparable. The challenge for the sector will be maintaining low latency while performing these deep-dive risk checks, especially as AI agents begin to initiate high-frequency transactions that require instant, high-fidelity trust signals.
