Brex taps former Spotify marketing executive June Sauvaget as CMO

Brex announced it has hired June Sauvaget as Chief Marketing Officer as it prepares to expand to a broader customer base beyond startups. Sauvaget, who hails most recently from Spotify, will leverage her deep experience developing brands to redefine what B2B customers can expect from their finance software.

The global pandemic has put a spotlight on the role of technology and software to keep businesses up and running; now more than ever, companies must rely on trusted financial systems to operate on a remote basis. Alongside that transition, customers expect more from the products and brands that power their business. With its CMO hire, Brex is charting the course of elevating customer expectations in B2B financial technology.

“June is a word-class brand marketer. Her very strong consumer DNA will be transformational for our growth plans to connect with a broader set of businesses,” said Henrique Dubugras, co-CEO of Brex.

A driving force behind that expansion is Brex’s mission, which it defines as “reimagining financial systems that help all companies reach their full potential.” Sauvaget will lead Brex in communicating that mission to companies outside the traditional startup ecosystem, including both larger and smaller businesses.

Brex currently offers businesses access to a credit card and cash management account within minutes of signing up, with no personal guarantee, higher spend limits than traditional providers, and best-in-class rewards. Larger, more scaled businesses face different barriers to growth, stemming from use of disparate point solutions to run their finances. Overseeing brand, product, and growth marketing, Sauvaget will craft the strategy for how Brex’s integrated products and features resonate with both large and small growing companies.

“Systemic barriers exist that block some entrepreneurs’ success, and we want to help all companies regardless of their industry, scale, or lack of financial history,” said Sauvaget.

Sauvaget’s 20-year career spans consumer technology, retail, ecommerce, and beauty. While at Spotify, Sauvaget oversaw global consumer and product marketing and helped launch the brand internationally over a four-year period. Her prior experience in retail and beauty gave her a front row seat to the shift from offline to online commerce, a valuable experience in light of her recent pivot to financial technology.
