HelmGuard has secured $7.3 million in seed funding to scale its agentic governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) platform. For fintech professionals, this marks a fundamental shift from document-heavy manual audits to automated, real-time risk assessment. By using AI agents to pull data directly from source systems, the platform aims to solve the growing complexity of managing third-party and AI-specific risks.

What was announced

HelmGuard announced a $7.3 million seed round co-led by Infinity Ventures and Frontline. The round also saw participation from FinTech Collective, Stage 2 Capital, and Entrepreneur First. The London-headquartered firm intends to use the capital to establish a presence in New York and San Francisco, expand its engineering and go-to-market teams, and accelerate the development of its "agent assurance layer." This layer is designed to evaluate the behavior of AI agents at runtime, addressing a critical gap in current security frameworks where agentic capabilities are often embedded into products long after initial diligence is completed.

The platform targets regulated sectors including financial services, insurance, healthcare, and industrials. Unlike legacy GRC tools that rely on static questionnaires and checklists, HelmGuard’s specialized AI agents integrate directly with source systems to collect unstructured data and risk signals. This approach has already demonstrated significant efficiency gains; for a US-based insurance client, the platform completed a full risk assessment of 1,250 counterparties in less than a week. Another global telehealth and telecommunications client reported reducing customer assurance response times from days to minutes.

Central to the offering is the "Verified Risk Network," which facilitates agent-to-agent exchange of current, verified claims between organizations. This moves the industry away from exchanging static PDF certifications that may become obsolete as soon as a vendor updates their software or AI models. The platform provides transparent citations and reasoning traces to ensure all automated workflows remain defensible for auditors and regulators.

"Most compliance platforms were built to document a process, not to reach a conclusion. Now they're using AI to produce those documents faster, which doesn’t help anyone decide anything. Our agents go to the source to collect and assess risk signals directly, abstracting away the manual data collection and assessment work that burns thousands of hours annually. This funding lets us bring that capability to far more teams and extend it to governing the AI agents being deployed on other workflows."

The companies involved

HelmGuard was co-founded by John Daley, who previously spent eight years as an executive at Palantir, the data analytics giant known for its work in highly regulated government and financial sectors. The startup focuses on "agentic" GRC, positioning itself as a modern alternative to process-oriented legacy platforms. Its CTO, Jack Miller, oversees the technical development of the platform's interconnected risk network and agent assurance mechanisms.

The funding round was co-led by Infinity Ventures, a venture capital firm based in San Francisco, and Frontline, which focuses on B2B software companies. Other investors include FinTech Collective, a New York-based firm that manages over $1 billion in assets, and Stage 2 Capital, which specializes in scaling go-to-market operations. Entrepreneur First, the talent investor that helped launch the company, also participated in the round.

Early adopters of the technology include Callosum, a London-based scale-up that provides advanced AI technologies to regulated industries globally. Callosum utilized HelmGuard to operationalize its security and compliance program to meet the rigorous diligence requirements of security-aware buyers. HelmGuard currently serves customers across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and South Africa.

What FF News has reported before

The rise of agentic AI and automated risk management has been a recurring theme in recent fintech developments. FF News recently covered how Visa Expands AI Cybersecurity Tools and Advisory to Accelerate Threat Remediation, highlighting the industry's move toward AI-driven threat response. The trend of deploying specialized agents is also gaining traction in other sectors; for instance, Rocket Money Launches Rowan: The AI Agent That Negotiates Bills and Cancels Subscriptions via Text demonstrates the consumer-facing side of this technology.

In the institutional space, Multiplier Secures $6M Seed Round to Build AI Agent Infrastructure for Asset Managers reflects a similar investor appetite for agent-led infrastructure. Additionally, The AmeriFlex Group Launches AI-Powered 'Scout' to Solve Financial Advisor Succession Crisis shows how firms are increasingly turning to AI to manage complex internal processes and transitions.

What this means

The GRC sector is facing a reckoning as the speed of software updates and AI deployments outpaces the traditional annual audit cycle. HelmGuard’s focus on "agentic" governance suggests that the industry is moving toward a model of continuous assurance. This puts significant pressure on legacy GRC providers who rely on manual data entry and static reporting. If risk can be verified at the source in real-time, the market for third-party risk management software will likely shift from document storage to active monitoring. The primary challenge for the sector now is whether regulators will accept agent-to-agent verification as a defensible basis for compliance in high-stakes industries like insurance and banking.
