Bron Partners with iProov to Launch FaceScan Biometric Wallet Recovery for Crypto Users
By Lauren Towner · 6 October 2026

Bron has launched FaceScan, a biometric recovery tool for self-custodial digital asset wallets powered by iProov’s Dynamic Liveness technology. By removing the reliance on seed phrases for account restoration, the feature addresses one of the most significant barriers to mass adoption in decentralized finance: the risk of permanent asset loss due to forgotten credentials.
What was announced
The launch of FaceScan introduces a mechanism for users to regain access to their digital assets through a single face scan. This feature is designed specifically for individuals, families, and businesses utilizing self-custody, a model where users maintain direct control over their assets rather than delegating custody to a centralized exchange or third-party provider. Traditionally, losing a device or a seed phrase in a self-custodial environment meant the permanent loss of assets, as no central authority exists to reset passwords and restore access.
FaceScan utilizes iProov’s Dynamic Liveness technology to verify "Genuine Presence." This process confirms that the person attempting to recover the wallet is the same individual who originally established the account and that they are a live human being, rather than a deepfake or a static image. The feature is available now globally and functions across various operating systems and devices.
This biometric option sits alongside Bron’s existing "Guardian" recovery system, which allows users to nominate two trusted contacts to verify their identity during a recovery event. Users can opt for either method or implement both for layered security. The necessity for such solutions is underscored by the scale of the market; research from June 2026 estimates that approximately 774 million people worldwide now own cryptocurrency, many of whom face the technical complexities of secure asset management without a third-party safety net.
"The industry has spent years pretending that losing everything is an acceptable price to pay for self-custody. It isn’t. The challenge has always been making recovery possible without reintroducing the very third-party dependency that self-custody is designed to remove. FaceScan changes that equation by confirming that you are the person who set up the account, without Bron needing to know who you are, and without an identity document, seed phrase, or point at which we take custody. You shouldn’t have to choose between control and recoverability."

The companies involved
Bron is a next-generation self-custodial platform focused on the secure ownership of digital assets. The company was founded by Dmitry Tokarev, who is also the founder of the institutional digital asset infrastructure firm Copper. Bron’s market position is defined by its attempt to bridge the gap between the security of self-custody and the user experience typically associated with centralized financial services, ensuring users do not have to sacrifice control for ease of use.
iProov, the technology partner for the FaceScan feature, is a specialist in biometric identity verification. Founded by Andrew Bud, who serves as Founder and CEO of iProov Limited, the company provides science-based facial verification services to governments, banks, and enterprise organizations globally. Its Dynamic Liveness technology is a core component of its offering, designed to detect sophisticated spoofing attempts and ensure the physical presence of a user during digital interactions. iProov has established a significant footprint in the fintech sector, with its technology frequently integrated into high-stakes authentication workflows where security and user friction must be carefully balanced.

What this means
The introduction of biometric recovery into self-custody represents a direct challenge to the "not your keys, not your coins" dogma that has historically prioritized absolute sovereignty over usability. By integrating iProov’s liveness detection, Bron is attempting to solve the single greatest point of failure in the decentralized economy: human error. This move puts pressure on traditional hardware wallet manufacturers and legacy self-custody providers who still rely on physical seed phrases—a method increasingly viewed as a relic of an earlier, more technical era. The broader industry must now grapple with whether biometric data, even when processed via privacy-preserving methods, compromises the core tenets of anonymity that many self-custody advocates demand.
