Flexera has expanded its AI Cost Management platform to include infrastructure and data cloud controls, addressing a critical visibility gap in enterprise technology spend. As financial institutions and fintechs ramp up AI investment, the ability to link model consumption and infrastructure costs to measurable business outcomes is becoming a prerequisite for continued scaling.

What was announced

Flexera is broadening its AI Cost Management suite by introducing specific controls for AI cloud infrastructure and AI data cloud platforms. This expansion builds on existing tools for managing AI applications, agents, and workflows. The update introduces autonomous capabilities into Flexera’s Data Cloud Optimization and Workload Optimization offerings, designed to balance performance against cost efficiency across clouds and containers using autonomous agents.

A significant portion of the update focuses on leading data platforms. Flexera is scheduled to release Snowflake automation by the end of this year, with Databricks automation expected to follow in early 2027. The company also announced an expansion of its AI ecosystem, incorporating gateways, observability, routing, and economic control systems. To help enterprises benchmark their progress, a new AI cost management maturity assessment has also been made available.

The move addresses a stark lack of transparency in the sector. According to Flexera, only 31% of organizations currently have visibility into their AI software spend, while nearly 75% of enterprises struggle to prove AI business outcomes to their CFOs. By providing granular visibility into the full AI stack—from model consumption to the underlying infrastructure—the platform aims to provide the financial discipline required as worldwide AI investment is forecast to rise 47% this year.

The companies involved

Flexera is a global entity specializing in technology spend and risk management. The company focuses on providing organizations with visibility into their software and cloud investments, a role that has become increasingly complex as enterprises transition to hybrid and multi-cloud environments. By positioning itself as a provider of economic control, Flexera aims to bridge the gap between technical operations and financial oversight.

The company operates within a broader market of technology and data management firms, including entities such as Revenium and Ascert. While Flexera focuses on spend management, the involvement of partners like SoftwareOne—a provider of ITAM and FinOps consulting—indicates the collaborative nature of the enterprise software ecosystem. Trent Allgood at SoftwareOne and Alessandro Perilli at IDC provide external validation of the market's shift toward stricter financial discipline. Flexera’s current strategy involves deepening integrations with major data cloud platforms, specifically targeting the high-growth areas of AI infrastructure and workload optimization to maintain its position as a leader in the technology value management space.

What this means

The "honeymoon phase" of AI experimentation is ending, and the fintech sector is entering a period of rigorous fiscal scrutiny. Flexera’s move to automate cost controls for Snowflake and Databricks puts pressure on cloud providers to offer more native transparency or risk losing governance-conscious clients to third-party platforms. For the broader industry, this signals that "AI at any cost" is no longer a viable strategy. The challenge now shifts from technical feasibility to economic sustainability. If 75% of enterprises cannot justify spend to their CFOs, we may see a cooling of AI projects that lack immediate, trackable ROI.
