Two in Five Americans Likely to Switch Banks for Crypto Services, NCA Research Reveals
By Lauren Towner · 20 October 2026

Quick Summary
The 2026 Crypto at the Bank Report reveals that 42% of Americans are more likely to switch to financial institutions offering digital asset services. Despite high demand for crypto banking services, 64% of consumers report their banks have never initiated a conversation regarding cryptocurrency options.
How Does Crypto Banking Services Impact Customer Loyalty?
Customer acquisition opportunities are significant for banks that integrate digital assets. According to the National Cryptocurrency Association, 35% of U.S. adults would open new accounts specifically for crypto access, while 36% would consolidate more of their financial needs with a crypto-capable provider. This shift in loyalty is most pronounced among specific demographics:
- 62% of parents with children under 18.
- 58% of adults aged 35-44.
- 57% of Hispanic and 56% of Black adults.
What Digital Asset Products Do Consumers Want Most?
Mainstream crypto adoption is moving beyond speculative trading toward integrated financial products. The research identifies a clear preference for regulated investment vehicles and diversified digital holdings. Consumers expressed the highest interest in:
- Crypto ETFs or specialized funds (22%).
- Direct buy and hold capabilities (22%).
- Tokenized real estate, stocks, and bonds (19%).
Why is There a Communication Gap in Crypto Banking?
Trust and education remain the primary barriers to adoption, despite 60% of Americans expecting banks to offer crypto within a decade. Currently, 64% of consumers—representing 168 million people—state that their financial advisor or bank has never mentioned cryptocurrency. Furthermore, 43% of respondents are entirely unaware if their current bank even provides these services. When institutions do provide guidance, they are four times more likely to recommend crypto than advise against it, suggesting that crypto banking services are viewed favorably by professionals once the conversation begins.
FF NEWS TAKE:
This report confirms that the 'wait and see' approach is now a strategic liability for banks. With 42% of the population ready to move their money for crypto banking services, the inertia in traditional boardrooms is handing a massive advantage to fintech challengers. The trust is there, but the product delivery is lagging. Banks must bridge this communication gap or face a permanent exodus of younger, high-value demographics.
