Experian has launched Fast Track, a lending tool designed to eliminate the friction between marketplace pre-approval and final credit acceptance. By integrating Open Banking and deeper affordability data earlier in the journey, the solution aims to reduce application drop-offs and provide consumers with greater certainty before they commit to a hard credit check.

What was announced

Experian’s Fast Track is a new lending innovation focused on the pre-approval phase of the consumer credit journey. Launched in London on 16th September 2026, the product is designed for both consumers and lenders to provide a more accurate picture of creditworthiness before a formal application is submitted. It specifically targets products such as personal loans and credit cards, helping borrowers understand their likelihood of approval with higher precision.

The system operates by pulling in a broader spectrum of data points at an earlier stage than traditional eligibility checks. This includes Open Banking insights, advanced affordability information, and identity verification data. Historically, consumers receiving "pre-approved" offers on marketplaces often faced additional checks once they reached a lender's specific site, leading to revised offers, requests for further documentation, or outright rejections. Fast Track moves these checks to the front of the process to provide more certainty.

Key partner Lendable has already integrated the technology for its loan customers. During testing, the fintech firm reported a 50% reduction in verification issues. By resolving these discrepancies early, the tool helps lenders minimize the volume of applications that are unlikely to be approved while reducing the need for manual reviews. Other lenders are also currently utilizing the service to streamline their application pipelines and improve conversion rates for credit products.

"By combining traditional eligibility assessments with richer affordability and Open Banking insights, we're helping consumers access more relevant offers with greater confidence, while enabling lenders to streamline application journeys and improve conversion. It's an important step forward in creating a more efficient lending experience for everyone."

The companies involved

Experian is a global leader in information services and credit reporting, maintaining a significant presence in the UK and Ireland market through its Consumer Services division. The company provides the data infrastructure that underpins the modern financial ecosystem, ranging from credit scores to identity verification services. It frequently collaborates with both traditional banks and emerging fintechs to refine credit decisioning processes and improve financial inclusion through data.

Lendable, a key partner in the Fast Track rollout, is a UK-based fintech founded with the mission of making credit more accessible and transparent. Since its inception, the company has focused on using technology to offer better rates and faster decisions for personal loans. Lendable has maintained a long-standing relationship with Experian, having worked with the credit bureau since 2018 to develop and refine pre-approved credit offers. The company’s focus on accuracy in its marketplace listings has made it a primary candidate for testing tools that bridge the gap between initial eligibility and final contract signing.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has followed Experian’s recent push into advanced decisioning and AI-driven financial services closely. Just days before the Fast Track launch, the company introduced its Experian Launches AI-Powered Activate Engine to Personalize Credit Decisioning, which focuses on real-time underwriting. Earlier in 2026, the firm also entered a strategic collaboration to Experian and ServiceNow Partner to Scale Agentic AI with Trusted Decisioning Data.

In the mortgage sector, FF News covered the Experian and Haysto Announce New Partnership to Deliver an Easier, Digital, and More Accessible Mortgage Experience, which similarly aimed to digitize and simplify the application journey for borrowers. These developments highlight a consistent trend in the company’s strategy toward integrating more diverse data sets into the consumer credit lifecycle to reduce manual friction.

What this means

This announcement addresses one of the most significant pain points in digital lending: the "pre-approval" paradox. For years, the industry has struggled with the reputational damage caused when a consumer is told they are pre-approved, only to be rejected after a hard search. By front-loading Open Banking data, Experian is essentially forcing a shift toward "certainty-first" lending. This puts significant pressure on mid-tier lenders who still rely on legacy manual verification processes, as they risk losing high-intent customers to faster, more transparent competitors. The move signals that the era of the "soft-search" being a mere estimate is ending, replaced by data-heavy, definitive pre-qualification.
