Colombian fintech Plenti has secured $3 million in seed funding led by Tether to scale its multicurrency investment platform across the Andean region. For fintech professionals, this deal signals the deepening integration of stablecoin issuers into the Latin American retail banking stack as local currency volatility drives demand for digital dollar alternatives.

What was announced

Plenti, based in Medellín, will use the $3 million injection to strengthen its existing Colombian operations while financing its expansion into Peru and Bolivia. The round was led by Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, with participation from Verda Ventures. This capital influx follows the company's growth to more than 150,000 active users and an annual transaction volume exceeding $3.1 billion across its business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) divisions.

Plenti’s core offering is a global multicurrency account that allows users to hold, send, and receive US Dollars, Euros, and Colombian Pesos. The platform provides yield on balances of up to 8% EA and enables fractional investing in U.S.-listed stocks, ETFs, and crypto assets with a minimum entry point of $6. Users also gain access to a multicurrency Visa card and the ability to fund international brokerage accounts without incurring traditional SWIFT fees.

The investment arrives as Tether reports approximately $184.6 billion in USDT in circulation as of the end of the second quarter of 2026, representing more than 60% of the global stablecoin market. Plenti positions itself in the multicurrency and retail investment category alongside regional platforms such as ARQ (formerly known as DolarApp), Littio, and Bitso.

"We raised $3 million for an operation that already moves more than $3.1 billion a year. We didn't need capital to grow in Colombia, we raised it to accelerate and bring the model to new markets,"

Martín Peláez, co-founder and CTO of Plenti.

The companies involved

Founded in 2022 in Medellín by Martín Peláez, Nicolás Zuleta, and Sebastián Correa, Plenti is a member of the Colombia Fintech industry association. The company has positioned itself as a bridge between local fiat currencies and global digital assets, backed by investors including Platanus Ventures and now Tether. The startup's focus on fractional investing and yield-bearing accounts places it at the intersection of traditional brokerage services and decentralized finance.

Tether, the lead investor in this round, is the dominant issuer in the stablecoin market, providing the liquidity and infrastructure that many Latin American fintechs use to offer dollar-pegged services. This move to invest directly in a regional player like Plenti indicates a strategic interest in the "last mile" of digital asset distribution. The competitive landscape for Plenti includes Bitso, a major player in the Latin American crypto-to-fiat space. Plenti’s infrastructure also leverages global payment networks, specifically through its partnership with Visa to provide multicurrency card services. Verda Ventures, another participant in the round, is led by Founding General Partner Alex Witt.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has previously covered the rapid expansion of digital asset infrastructure and stablecoin adoption within the Latin American market. Additionally, we have tracked the institutional appetite for these technologies, such as when Hyundai Card and Hyundai Motor Complete Commercial-Grade Stablecoin Remittance Trial. Most recently, our coverage included the expansion of other regional financial platforms, such as when Félix Secures $200M Series C to Expand AI-Powered Latino Financial Platform.

What this means

This deal highlights a shift where stablecoin issuers are moving from passive infrastructure providers to active strategic investors in the retail fintech space. By backing Plenti, Tether is securing a regulated distribution channel for USDT in the Andean region, placing pressure on traditional banks and legacy remittance firms that rely on high SWIFT fees and slow settlement times. The challenge for the sector now lies in navigating the varying regulatory temperatures in Peru and Bolivia compared to Colombia. As multicurrency "super-apps" proliferate, the industry must address whether retail yield products can remain sustainable if global interest rates fluctuate or if stablecoin transparency remains a point of contention for regional regulators.
