Press Release: Monzo Business Launches 'Get Busy Living' Campaign Following 1 Million Customer Milestone | Featured Image by FF News

Monzo is extending its "Get busy living" brand platform to its business banking division, launching a multi-channel campaign aimed at established small businesses. As the challenger bank surpasses one million business customers, this move signals a shift in focus toward high-value SMEs by highlighting automated financial tools that reduce the administrative burden on founders and operators.

What was announced

The campaign, which begins rolling out on 21 September, centers on three new films titled Laser Tag, Voice of an Angel, and Mama Dance. Developed by BBH London in collaboration with Monzo’s in-house creative studio, the creative work focuses on three specific pain points for business owners: expenses, integrated accounting, and tax pots. The objective is to demonstrate how Monzo’s digital-first features can handle complex financial admin in the background, allowing business owners to focus on growth and personal time.

The campaign follows Monzo Business reaching the milestone of one million customers earlier this summer. The bank is now targeting more established small businesses that manage greater financial complexity than early-stage startups. These businesses often require more robust tools for managing cash flow and regulatory obligations. Features like Tax Pots allow users to automatically set aside a percentage of their income for HMRC, while integrated accounting ensures that transaction data flows directly into platforms like Xero or FreeAgent.

Independent testing by System1 gave all three films a 5.9-star rating, with Mama Dance ranking in the top 1% of banking advertisements when tested against a nationally representative audience. The rollout is comprehensive, spanning YouTube, Connected TV, Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD), digital out-of-home (DOOH), digital radio, audio, and paid social media. By positioning its business tools as lifestyle enablers, Monzo is attempting to bridge the gap between personal banking ease and professional financial management.

"Get busy living has always been about making money feel effortless in the background, so people have more time for what matters to them. That idea is just as powerful for business owners, who started their businesses to build something they care about, not to spend their time buried in financial admin."

The companies involved

Monzo was founded in 2015 and has since grown into one of the United Kingdom’s most prominent digital banks, currently serving more than 16 million customers. The company holds full UK and European banking licences, a status that distinguishes it from many electronic money institutions in the fintech space. It has built its reputation on features designed to give users granular control over their finances, such as the Gambling Block—an industry-first safety feature—Call Status, and the Saving Challenge. Its business banking arm, Monzo Business, has scaled rapidly to serve over one million of the bank’s total user base, positioning itself as a primary competitor to traditional high-street business accounts.

BBH London, the creative agency partner for this campaign, worked alongside Monzo’s internal creative team to adapt the "Get busy living" platform, which originally launched for the bank's retail customers in July. Monzo’s approach to product development often involves co-creating with its user base to address specific financial frictions, a strategy that has moved from its retail roots into its business offerings. The bank remains a significant player in the fintech ecosystem, known for its distinctive coral-colored cards and a mobile-first philosophy that has redefined consumer expectations for banking interfaces. AJ Coyne at Monzo Bank also serves on the Sky Vision Council, bringing broad marketing expertise to the firm's brand strategy.

What FF News has reported before

Monzo has recently accelerated its product diversification and international footprint. FF News recently covered the launch of Monzo Aura: UK’s First Credit Card to Auto-Invest Cashback into ETFs, which is the UK’s first credit card designed to automatically invest rewards into investment funds. This move into investment-linked credit follows the bank's broader strategy of integrating wealth management into its core banking experience.

Furthermore, the bank has been leveraging advanced technology to streamline its regulatory processes as it scales. We reported that Monzo Accelerates European Expansion with Adclear AI to Cut Compliance Approval Times by 82%. This technological efficiency is central to its growth across the UK, Ireland, and Spain, supporting its mission to scale its user base while maintaining strict regulatory standards across different jurisdictions and managing the complexities of international expansion.

What this means

This campaign marks a critical juncture for the SME banking sector. For years, challenger banks focused on the "solopreneur" and micro-business market, where needs are simple. By targeting "established small businesses" with "greater financial complexity," the market is seeing a shift where the battleground is no longer just about who has the best app, but who can integrate most seamlessly with a business’s wider tech stack, such as accounting software and tax authorities. The pressure is now on traditional lenders to prove their legacy systems can match this level of automated utility. Whether established players can pivot their UX quickly enough to retain these high-value clients remains the industry's most pressing question.
