nbkc bank to Acquire LSBX Consumer BaaS Portfolio from Lincoln Savings Bank
By Lauren Towner · 3 November 2026

nbkc bank has filed an application with the FDIC to acquire the consumer-focused Banking as a Service (BaaS) portfolio of LSBX, the fintech division of Lincoln Savings Bank. For the fintech sector, this marks a significant consolidation of BaaS assets as traditional banks realign their digital strategies ahead of major corporate mergers and shifting regulatory landscapes.
What was announced
nbkc bank intends to assume the consumer-facing BaaS operations currently maintained by LSBX. This move is designed to scale nbkc’s existing BaaS infrastructure and expand its overall deposit base. The transaction is slated for completion in early 2027, contingent upon regulatory approval from the FDIC. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The acquisition follows the September announcement that Lincoln Bancorp, the Reinbeck, Iowa-based parent company of Lincoln Savings Bank, will merge with Wichita-headquartered Equity Bancshares, Inc. Under the proposed arrangement, the LSBX offering will be integrated into nbkc’s existing BaaS business and rebranded under the nbkc name.
Currently, nbkc bank operates a substantial BaaS division with approximately 30 dedicated employees managing 13 relationships with fintech companies. These partnerships serve roughly 3.6 million BaaS customers. By absorbing the LSBX portfolio, nbkc seeks to build upon an established program that provides banking products—including deposits, checking accounts, debit cards, and personal loans—to nonbank fintech firms and their end-users. Through these BaaS offerings, fintech companies gain the ability to offer regulated banking products via their own apps, while the partner bank gains access to the fintech's retail customer base.
"This transaction is a natural fit for nbkc and is a great opportunity to continue growing our BaaS business,"

The companies involved
nbkc bank is a Kansas City-based financial institution that has positioned itself as a technology-forward player in the mid-market banking space. It provides a range of consumer and commercial banking services, with a specific focus on its Banking as a Service (BaaS) capabilities that allow fintechs to offer regulated financial products without holding their own banking charters.
Lincoln Savings Bank, headquartered in Iowa, has been a prominent name in the BaaS sector through its LSBX division. The bank has historically focused on bridging the gap between traditional community banking and modern financial technology. Its parent company, Lincoln Bancorp, is currently in the process of being acquired by Equity Bancshares, a move that appears to have precipitated the divestment of its consumer BaaS portfolio. LSBX has functioned as the dedicated arm for these fintech partnerships, facilitating the "human touch" alongside digital delivery. The transition of these customers to nbkc represents a shift in the competitive landscape for partner banks in the United States.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has tracked the digital evolution of both institutions as they navigate the intersection of finance and technology. In early 2025, nbkc bank Selects NCR Atleos Allpoint to Expand Access to Self-Service Banking, a move aimed at enhancing its physical touchpoints for digital customers. More recently, the bank focused on its lending operations, as seen in the report nbkc bank Transforms Mortgage Lending with Vesta AI-Native Origination Platform. Meanwhile, Lincoln Savings Bank has been active in industry governance; in 2024, Lincoln Savings Bank (LSB) Joins American Fintech Council (AFC), signaling its commitment to regulatory standards within the BaaS ecosystem.
What this means
This deal highlights a maturing BaaS market where scale and regulatory compliance are becoming the primary differentiators. As Lincoln Savings Bank prepares for its merger with Equity Bancshares, the decision to offload the LSBX portfolio suggests that not every acquiring bank is ready to inherit the complexities of a high-volume fintech partnership business. For nbkc, the acquisition is a clear play for dominance in the "bank-behind-the-fintech" space. However, it also places nbkc under a brighter regulatory spotlight. As the FDIC scrutinizes BaaS relationships more closely, the industry will be watching to see if the sector can maintain seamless service for millions of customers during such large-scale portfolio migrations.
