ING Bolsters UK Sector Banking with Six Strategic Senior Appointments
By Lauren Towner · 22 September 2026

ING has significantly expanded its UK sector banking operations, appointing six senior leaders to drive growth across financial sponsors, insurance, transport, and agribusiness. For fintech and banking professionals, this move signals a pivot toward high-touch, sector-specific expertise as corporate clients demand more integrated, cross-border financing solutions to navigate increasingly volatile global supply chains and shifting trade flows.
What was announced
The expansion, overseen by Aled Patchett, UK head of sectors, introduces specialized coverage across several key industries and creates a new framework for connecting UK-based clients with international markets. Isotta Perotti joins the firm as managing director for Financial Sponsors. With over two decades of experience in investment banking and sponsor coverage, including a previous role at Société Générale, Perotti will be based in London but will support clients across the EMEA region and globally.
In the insurance sector, ING has appointed Tom Duncan as global lead for insurance and Lauren Marshall as EMEA lead for insurance. Their roles are designed to shape global and regional strategies, helping clients manage complex financing and risk management needs. The bank is also broadening its transport and logistics reach with the hire of Katie Timmons from Citi. Timmons brings expertise in aviation, land transport, and automotive sectors, representing a strategic move to broaden ING’s UK offering beyond its long-established shipping business. She is tasked with advising clients on digital transformation and the transition to lower-carbon operations.
Furthermore, the bank has formalized its food, beverage and agribusiness (FB&A) team in London, which was established in late 2025. Led by Eanna Mulkere, who brings 25 years of experience including a tenure at ING in Dallas, the team focuses on the entire agribusiness value chain. Finally, Andrea Burnett has been named UK head of network sector coverage, a newly created role intended to provide multinational clients with better access to ING’s international network. These hires expand the bank's UK teams across lending, transaction services, financial markets, sustainable finance, and debt capital markets.
"Clients increasingly need advisers who combine detailed industry knowledge with the ability to deliver financing across markets. These appointments deepen our expertise in sectors where client needs are becoming more complex and strengthen the links between our UK teams and ING’s international network."
Alexandra MacMahon, UK country head at ING.
The companies involved
ING is a major global financial institution headquartered in the Netherlands, maintaining a significant and long-standing presence in the United Kingdom. The bank operates an extensive international network that serves a diverse client base, ranging from individual retail customers in select markets to large multinational corporations and institutional investors. In the UK market, ING has traditionally been recognized for its strengths in wholesale banking and specialized lending, particularly within the shipping and energy sectors.
The current expansion reflects a strategic effort to diversify its UK footprint and move into a broader array of corporate sectors. By establishing dedicated teams for insurance, agribusiness, and general transport logistics, ING is positioning itself as a more comprehensive partner for corporate clients who require sophisticated advisory services alongside traditional credit. The bank’s sector-led model relies on integrating local industry insight with global transaction services and financial markets capabilities. This allows the firm to compete with both major domestic UK clearing banks and other global investment houses by offering a combination of deep industry-specific knowledge and seamless cross-border execution through its international network.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely followed ING’s recent talent acquisition strategy as it bolsters its London-based leadership. On 17 September 2026, we reported that ING Strengthens UK Financial Markets Team with Appointment of Deloitte’s Paolo Esposito, who joined to lead derivatives advisory. Earlier that month, on 8 September 2026, the publication covered the initial stages of the bank's insurance push in ING Bolsters Global Insurance Strategy with Senior Hires Tom Duncan and Lauren Marshall. These reports highlight a sustained period of investment by the bank into its UK operations, specifically targeting senior talent from major competitors and consultancy firms to enhance its advisory and financial markets franchises.
What this means
This aggressive hiring spree suggests that the "generalist" model of corporate banking is under increasing pressure. As industries like transport and agribusiness face dual pressures from digital transformation and decarbonization, banks can no longer rely on providing vanilla lending products. ING’s decision to embed specialists directly into its UK operation indicates a belief that sector-specific advisory is now the primary differentiator in a crowded market. The move puts pressure on domestic incumbents to prove they can match this level of international connectivity and technical depth. The success of this strategy will likely depend on how effectively these new leads can bridge the gap between regional offices and global product teams.
